Body Found On Sagaponack Beach Wednesday Evening

Investigators Rule Death An Apparent Suicide

Sagaponack - A jogger running on the beach in the vicinity of Peters Pond Lane in Sagaponack alerted Southampton Town Police of an unconscious man in the ocean surf on Wednesday, September 30 at 3:06 p.m. Police and Town Bay Constables arriving on the scene found a fully clothed man deceased in the surf.

The preliminary investigation revealed that the man, age 60, a Sag Harbor resident, succumbed to a self-inflicted gunshot wound that investigators believe had occurred earlier in the afternoon. The body was removed to the Suffolk County Medical Examiner's Office in Hauppauge for further examination. The weapon was recovered at the scene.

The family of the deceased has been notified, however due to consideration for family and friends, police are not releasing the name or any additional information regarding the incident.
