East Hampton - Montauk welcomed East Hampton Republican designated candidates Bill Wilkinson, Theresa Quigley, Dominick Stanzione, Andy Hammer, Tom Talmage, Eugene DePasquale, Diane McNally, Joe Bloecker, Lynn Mendelman, Kayla Talmage and Stephanie Talmage at a "Summer Extravaganza" held at the scenic Montauk Downs Golf Course on June 15.

The event, attended by more than 175 people, was emceed by Republican Party Chairman John L. Behan who addressed the party-minded of the "superior qualifications of the candidates." Also in attendance was County Legislator Jay Schneiderman who, although having changed his registration to the Independence Party, continues to be supported by East Hampton Town Republicans as "one of their own."

The East Hampton GOP leadership has endorsed Schneiderman in his bid for re-election to his post as a County legislator.

Chairman Behan, who served as a New York State Assemblyman in the Second District for 17 years, thanked his successor, State Assemblyman Fred Thiele (R-2nd), for making the trip out to Montauk to show his support for the candidates. "Our candidates will work as tirelessly as Fred does in Albany to make sure the Town is represented in a fiscally responsible way which promotes the use of Community Preservation Funds in the manner for which that fund was intended," Behan promised.

Tina Piette, who is a member of the town Republican Committee, thanked Jack Graham for putting the event together, saying, "We were happy to have friends from all parties joining us on this fun evening. I think people are beginning to realize it isn't 'Us against Dems', and it is truly gratifying to see people coming together to support a new beginning for the Town."

to amazed rick 58 has been at 30 or so town board meetings or brown bag meetings over the last 2 years or so. my problem was that not one candidate said anything about this when it was time to comment I know it is easy to go against the messenger maybe that is why we the republicans have not won an election in years and the voters do not trust us

So Ben Zwirn, whose radio ads say he has been a resident for 30 years, shows up at his first Town Board Meeting and recites what the Republican have said since January 08 - stop spending - stop hiring - stop spending on the new Town Hall - and Rick 58 is impressed. In addition to being out of touch Rick 58, I am amazed that the person Ben Zwirn, who contributed to the McGintee 07 campaign; who was a charter member of the Conservator, the EH Dem Pac, and who recommended that McGintee should run against Jay Schneiderman, is seen as Independent. Simply amazing stuff.

not one republican was at the town board meeting that had public comment on the future capital budgets. only ben zwirn spoke and he did a good job telling the board not to spend money the town does not have. the over confident republicans which I am will find a way to get defeated in the fall. maybe it is time for some real independent candidates.

Let's hope the GOP takes back the TOwn and bring back fiscal sanity.
