East Hampton - The 79th annual Springs Fisherman's Fair is on Saturday, August 13 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and promises to be, as always, a delight for children, gourmands, shoppers and art lovers alike. It fills the grounds at Ashawagh Hall and the Springs Library which you'll find at 780 Springs Fireplace Road in Springs (that's the village four miles East of Nick & Toni's).
For the kids there'll be pony rides and games galore a waterslide and much more. The food will run from marvelous mussels to clam chowder from heaven to hot dogs by the hundreds. Plus, local corn on the cob and lots of beer and soda. The selection of plants and flowers promises to be the best ever. And there are fine crafts by artists from here and from afar of every kind for sale and the really big Springs Library book sale.
Fish For Art At The Fair
The 44th Annual Artists of the Springs Invitational Art Exhibit will be starting its second week and hopefully a few beauties will be left unsold. But if not there will be an exceptional selection of signed and numbered posters from previous years for sale and other limited editions, as well. You'll find signed posters by Elaine deKooning, Pearle Fine, Miriam Shapiro, Bill King, John Opper, Herman Cherry,
Ibram Lassaw, John Little, Clause Hoie, Constantine Nivola, Ilya Bolotowsky, John Brooks, Arnold Hoffman, Robert Richenberg and
Ray Parker. And limited edition posters by Willem deKooning,
Lee Krasner,
Jackson Pollack and many others at prices that are more than reasonable.
The Fisherman's Fair brings East Hampton to life every August come rain or shine. And just down the road you'll find the Pollack Krasner House and kind of around the corner the legendary Green River Cemetery. It's also the 101st Anniversary of the Springs Improvement Society which has brought the artists and craftsmen of the Springs together for more than a century.
