East Hampton - Donations were made by the Donald T. Sharkey Memorial Community Fund to local fire departments at a dinner held at the East Hampton Fire Department on July 5, 2011. These $500 donations were accepted by the chiefs and department members of the Montauk, Amagansett, East Hampton, Springs, Bridgehampton and Sag Harbor Fire Departments.

"We are always happy when we can contribute funds to the local fire departments," Patty Sales, President of the DTSMCF commented. "Don was a volunteer member of the Amagansett Fire Department for over 20 years, and we know he would appreciate this."

The Donald T. Sharkey Memorial Community Fund, a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporation, supports the local community by contributing to the Wounded Warrior Project's East End Soldier Ride, local fire departments and charities, a scholarship for a local student, and various community needs. It was formed and named in memory of Donald T. Sharkey who died suddenly in July 2009, while acting as the Town's Chief Building Inspector and an Assistant Captain in the Amagansett Fire Department, of which he had been a volunteer member for over 20 years.
