POLICE: Three Riverhead Men Arraigned On Drug Charges

Joseph Gilliam and Ramon Overton were indicted along with Troy Trent. (Suffolk County District Attorney)

Riverhead - Suffolk County District Attorney Thomas Spota announced the second indictment this month of suspects arrested by East End Drug Task Force investigators for cocaine trafficking.

Troy Trent was one of three men indicted.

Charged in the 16-count indictment with the sale of powder and crack cocaine in the Riverhead area are Troy Trent, a/k/a "Troy-T," Ramon Overton, a/k/a "Pamp," and Joseph Gilliam a/k/a "Slick."

District Attorney Spota said undercover detectives assigned to the EEDTF began the investigation into street level crack sales in January 2010. "Evidence gathered during the investigation established defendants Trent and Gilliam supplied cocaine to Overton who, as the indictment details, was an active street-level crack dealer in Riverhead," District Attorney Spota said. "Surveillance and other evidence established Overton sold crack at locations on Segal Avenue and in public parking lots on Route 58."

Trent, 41, of Oakland Drive North, is charged with second degree conspiracy and incarcerated in lieu of $25,000 cash bail.

Gilliam, 38, of Northville Turnpike, is charged with second degree conspiracy and incarcerated in lieu of $10,000 cash or $25,000 bond.

Overton, 41, of Franklin Street, is charged with second degree conspiracy, four counts of criminal sale of a controlled substance third degree, six counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance third degree, four counts of criminal possession of a weapon fourth degree, and one count of criminal use of drug paraphernalia second degree. Overton is being held in the county jail in lieu of $200,000 bond.

The weapons possession charges stem from three 12 gauge pump-action shotguns and a rifle seized by EEDTF detectives during the execution of a search warrant at Overton's Franklin Street residence, District Attorney Spota said. Overton is barred from owning firearms because of his previous conviction for a violent felony (burglary second degree) in 1987.

Two ounces of cocaine, a small quantity of crack, and scales were also seized from Overton's house and truck.

The East End Drug Task Force is a multi-jurisdictional drug enforcement unit funded by the office of Suffolk County District Attorney Thomas Spota. The task force includes detectives, police officers, and law enforcement personnel from the New York State Police, New York State Parole the Suffolk County Police Department, District Attorney Detective-Investigators, East Hampton Town Police Department, East Hampton Village Police Department, Shelter Island Police Department, Southold Police Department, Riverhead Police Department, Suffolk County Sheriff's Office, and the Suffolk County Department of Probation.
