Oscar® Update: And The Nominees Are...

The 83rd Academy Award's will be held on February 27, at 8 p.m. EST. (screencrave.com)

Christian Bale is a favorite for his role in "The Fighter." (Stephen Lovekin)

Southampton - Hollywood's biggest night will take place on Sunday, February 27, as The American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences hosts the 83rd Academy Awards at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood, California. Hosted by James Franco and Anne Hathaway, the event honoring the best in motion picture during the year 2010 is sure to be a delight to watch.

It is always thrilling when a film is shot on location in your hometown, and even more thrilling - as in the case of "The Fighter" - a film that is about someone who is from and still lives in your hometown. Born and raised in Lowell, Massachusetts, "The Fighter" reveals the story of two men I knew growing up, Micky Ward and Dicky Eklund - brilliantly portrayed by Christian Bale.

"The Fighter" is a brutal eye-opener into the lives of these two half-brothers, and their respective boxing careers, choices and lives. I attended high school with Dicky, and one of my nephews still works out at Micky's gym, and where my grandfather was mayor at one time. Where I'm from you are always identified first by who your older or younger brother or sister is - and then by your name - perhaps due to the number of children (seven in mine) in respective families.

Having watched the glorious and inglorious careers of both of these men for many years "The Fighter" has as much to do about family as it does about boxing. However, the portrayal of my hometown, Lowell, is disturbing. I grew up at the same time as Dicky, in the same city, and with some of the same acquaintances, but I didn't grow up in his Lowell. Both heart warming and heart wrenching to watch - "The Fighter" most importantly reminded me to always remember where you are from and who you knew along the journey, so thanks to Massachusetts born Mark Wahlberg for bringing a story about the importance of family and the achievements we can all gain when we stop to remember where our roots are, as well as his remarkable portrayal of one of Lowell's own.
