POLICE: Mother Charged With DWI - Accidents Injures Her Two Children

Southampton - The Southampton Town Police report the arrest of Christina C. Kelly age 34 of Sag Harbor for Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated, a class E Felony and two counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child in the 2nd degree, a class A Misdemeanor after being involved in an accident resulting in injuries to herself and her two children.

At 4:37 p.m. on May 18 patrol officers responded to a motor vehicle accident on Millstone Road south of Loper's Path in Bridgehampton. During the ensuing investigation into the accident, officers found that Kelly was operating a 2007 Land Rover at a speed imprudent for the weather and road conditions while traveling southbound on Millstone Road. Kelly lost control of the vehicle just south of Loper's Path, crossing the northbound lane and striking a utility pole on the northbound shoulder of the roadway. The pole was struck with such force that the pole and two additional utility poles fell into the roadway, placing live wires on the ground and closing the road in both directions for several hours. Kelly was found to be in an intoxicated condition and subsequently arrested.

The Bridgehampton Fire Department Rescue responded and transported Kelly who had a minor laceration to her hand, and her two daughters, a six-year-old with injuries to her head, arm and knee and a two-year-old with injuries to her face, to Southampton Hospital where they were all treated and eventually released.

Child Protective Services responded to Southampton Hospital and authorized the release of the children to their grandparents. From the hospital, Kelly was transported in police custody to Southampton Town Police Headquarters in Hampton Bays, where she was processed and held for arraignment on Wednesday morning, May 19 at Southampton Town Justice Court in Hampton Bays.
