East Hampton - Assemblyman
Fred Thiele (I-Sag Harbor) announced that the Town of East Hampton is the recipient of a grant through the New York State Department of State's Local Waterfront Revitalization Program (LWRP).
The grant, totaling over $130,000, will be used for a project in the Town of East Hampton that will restore hard clams and American oysters in Three Mile and Napeague Harbors. The Town will seed and deploy one million oysters and 750,000 clams to each harbor over the course of two years. This is anticipated to result in increased oyster and clam harvests for town residents while adding to their stocks.
"I am thrilled the Town will be receiving this grant," said Assemblyman Thiele. "This grant will cover half the cost of the program and will greatly assist the Town as they continue their great work on these types of programs."
"The Town of East Hampton happily accepts this grant award," said
Diane McNally, Clerk of the East Hampton Town Trustees. "This will enable the Town to get started on this project which will greatly enhance our clam and oyster program."
Since 1994, LWRP grants awarded through the Department of State and have totaled more than $169 million.
