Thiele Announces Road Work To Commence On Montauk Highway

Sag Harbor - Assemblyman Fred W. Thiele, Jr. (I-Sag Harbor) announced that the New York State Department of Transportation (DOT) will begin a road resurfacing project on State Route 27 (Montauk Highway) in certain locations from Water Mill to East Hampton. The work is in response to the multiple letters Assemblyman Thiele has sent, some with other elected officials, requesting the DOT to address the deplorable roadway conditions on Montauk Highway. Many constituents have contacted the Assemblyman's office

"Although DOT will be doing a complete resurfacing project from Water Mill to Montauk, that project is not slated to begin until 2012," said Assemblyman Thiele. "At my urging, the DOT has agreed to perform spot treatment of certain sections of the roadway that are the most dangerous to motorists. I want to thank the local elected officials who were also supportive of these efforts, East Hampton Supervisor Bill Wilkinson, East Hampton Village Mayor Paul Rickenbach and Southampton Town Supervisor Anna Throne-Holst."

According to Thiele, the following areas are to be addressed:

 • Eastbound Route 27 at Warrens Nursery in Water Mill
 • Eastbound Route 27 at Willow Road in Water Mill
 • Eastbound Route 27 at McCoy Real Estate in Bridgehampton
 • Eastbound Route 27 at Plitt Ford in Wainscott
 • Eastbound Route 27 at Wainscott Northwest Road in Wainscott
 • East and Westbound Route 27 at Stephen Hand's Path/Georgica Road in East Hampton
 • Eastbound Route 27 at Jericho Road in East Hampton
 • East and Westbound Route 27 at Cove Hollow Road in East Hampton
 • East and Westbound Route 27 at Baiting Hollow Road/Woods Lane in East Hampton
 • Westbound Route 27 at Buells Lane and State Route 114 intersection in East Hampton
 • Eastbound Route 27 at Egypt Lane/Accabonac Road in East Hampton

The DOT has indicated that the entire project is expected to be completed by the end of November 2010.

From the office of Assemblyman Fred Thiele
