Sag Harbor Food Pantry Now Accepting Pet Donations

The Sag Harbor Food Pantry is open to Sag Harbor residents every Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Sag Harbor - Everyone knows that the economy in the last year has been dreadful for both people and their pets. Pet abandonment has increased nationwide because economically-stressed people can't afford to feed themselves as well as their four-legged friends. To this end, the Sag Harbor Community Food Pantry has stepped up and offered to distribute pet food to those having trouble feeding their pets.

Donations of pet food, dry or canned, for cats, dogs or other pets, can be brought to the First Presbyterian (Old Whalers') Church at 44 Union Street, Tuesday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Donations can be left outside the pastor's office if no one is around. Food Pantry volunteers pass by frequently to check on and put away donations.

The Pantry itself is open every Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. A money donation can be sent to: Sag Harbor Food Pantry, P.O. 1241, Sag Harbor, NY 11963. If anyone wants to speak directly to Pantry Director Lillian Woudsma, she can be reached at 631-329-2151 or on her cell at 631-553-6515.

When thinking about donations, don't forget the Animal Rescue Center of the Hamptons, the Southampton Animal Shelter, Last Chance Animal Rescue Fund, East Hampton Group for Wildlife, the Wildlife Rescue Center of the Hamptons, Riverhead Foundation for Marine Research and the other fine agencies out here helping our fellow creatures.

I just recently learned that the director of the Pantry has stepped down. Mrs Woudsma is responsible for what the Pantry has become. She is one who started all of the great programs which now exist, like "Fresh is better", and most recently the pet food donations. Roomer has it she did not want to resign but could no longer be effective due to the board members in controle. SHAME ON YOU FOOLS FOR LETTING HER GET AWAY! Thank you Mrs. Woudsma for all you did for me, God bless you for all your caring and efforts above and beyond what a normal food partry would do. We will miss you. Good luck and thank you again
