'Things That Go Bump In The Crust' At Montauk Observatory
Montauk - The Montauk Observatory presents, "Things that go Bump in the Crust: Tectonics from Montauk to Mars and all around the Solar System," on Friday, November 6 at 6 p.m.
Join members of Montauk Observatory at the Montauk Public Library this Friday when our special guest Dr. Dan Davis, author of "Turn Left at Orion," points out the similarities and important differences among the tectonics (the processes that create mountains on Earth) observed on the various solid bodies of the solar system. Plate tectonics are found only on the Earth, but styles of faulting and folding found here on Earth (even in Montauk) have been observed in places as diverse as greenhouse Venus and the icy satellites of the outer planets... why?
Weather permitting there will be a star party at Theodore Roosevelt County Park following the lecture.
The Montauk Observatory, Inc., is a not-for-profit organization, designated as a 501(c)3, with a mission to provide free year-round educational programs, including astronomy lectures and professional planetarium shows.
