Southampton Historical Society Announces Upcoming Events

Southampton - The Southampton Historical Society has announced some upcoming Fall events:

Calendar Girls
Bonnie Grice, a/ka Miss April and host of WLIU's "In The Morning," is just one of the many lovely ladies featured in the Historic Figures of Southampton 2010 Calendar. Calendar Girls will be selling their 2010 calendar at the Pelletreau Silver Shop (80 Main Street, Southampton) on Friday and Saturday, November 27 and November 28 between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. Sales from the calendar are being used to save the 1666 Halsey House, a property of the Southampton Historical Museum and Research Center.

Calendar Girls featured in the Historic Figures of Southampton 2010 will be having a wine and cheese reception at the Pelletreau Silver Shop on Friday and Saturday. Trustees and volunteers at the Southampton Historical Museum were desperate to save the 1666 Halsey House so they decided to take off their clothes and make a calendar. Calendars are $14.95 and can also be purchased at Herrick Hardware, Hildreth's Department Store, Southampton Stationary, Kevin Maple Salon, and Canio's Books.

Adult Workshop - Diana Conklin Evergreen Workshop
At Rogers Mansion, 17 Meeting House Lane, Southampton, on Saturday, November 28, from 10 a.m. to 12 noon, $40. Choose from over a dozen different types of locally harvested greens, including balsams, boxwood, pine or spruce and create your own custom wreath. Customize it with dried nuts, pods, berries, cones, hydrangea, wheat and other dried flowers. You may also want to bring a string of 50 twinkle lights or a bow. Bring protective gloves and pruners. Space is limited and reservations are required. Call 631-283-2494 to register.

Holiday Exhibit And Photography Show Opening
 • Decembers Past And Present and "Frozen in Time: Winter on the East End," is free admission at Rogers Mansion, on Tuesday through Saturday, through January 2, 2010, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., $4 adults, free for members and children 17 and under. Come celebrate Southampton's many holiday traditions with this annual winter exhibit. The 1843 Rogers Mansion is decorated with traditional holiday decorations and displays by Southampton's many ethnic and cultural communities. Also on display is a photography show by Dana Shaw titled "Frozen in Time: Winter on the East End." The exhibition will be on view Tuesday through Saturday through January 2, 2010, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Benefit - Grape Expectations! Wine Tasting at Wollfer
Wolffer Estate Vineyards, 139 Sagg Road, in Sagaponack, on Friday, November 20, from 6 p.m. 7:30 p.m., $40 in advance (call 631-283-2494) or $50 at the door. Join the Southampton Historical Museum in celebrating the wines of Wolffer Vineyards in Sagaponack. Louisa Hargrave, one of the pioneers of Long Island wine-making and author of "The Vineyard," will speak and conduct a wine tasting. Hargrave is widely regarded as a pioneer of and authority on the Long Island wine region. She planted its first vineyard - Hargrave Vineyard - in 1973. Hargrave Wines won numerous awards and accolades before she sold the winery to Borghese Vineyard. Hargrave became a writer, columnist, wine judge and consultant. She also is a founder and member emeritus of the Long Island Wine Council. The benefit aids the repair and restoration of two Museum properties - the 1680 Halsey House and the 1739 Sayre Barn. A selection of delicious hors d'oeuvres to complement the wines will be served.
