Stony Brook Southampton To Host Ribbon Cutting For 'Green' Library

First LEED-Certified Library on Long Island

Southampton - Stony Brook President Samuel L. Stanley, Southampton Dean and Vice President Mary C. Pearl, Provost Eric Kaler, Rep. Timothy Bishop, Sen. Ken LaValle, Assemb. Fred Thiele, students, faculty, staff, Southampton College alumni and members of the community will host a ribbon-cutting for Stony Brook Southampton's first new building, a state-of-the-art, LEED-certified Library.

The building is part of the new campus's commitment to being truly sustainable. Some energy conservation features include: day-light controls; occupancy sensors; low-water-consuming plumbing fixtures; rain water collection systems for bathrooms; geothermal heating and air-conditioning; low-VOC furnishings, carpets and paints; renewable wood (a bamboo ceiling, for example), and special floor tiles and wall panels made from renewable resources.

The event will take place at Stony Brook Southampton Library, south of Chancellors Hall, 239 Montauk Highway in Southampton at 10 a.m., and includes continental breakfast.
