East Hampton - Shanna Rae Polley, a 15-year-old student at the Ross School, was one of two recipients of the 2009 Elizabeth Brockman Music Award, based on her original composition work, "Movements," performed at this past week's Fifth Annual Project Playhouse Master Class.

The Master Class presentations and competition took place at The Playhouse in East Hampton on Thursday, May 21 and Friday, May 22. The class was given by Geoffrey Simon, a London-based conductor and artistic director of the Swiss Global Artistic Foundation, and Simon Powis, classical guitarist and doctoral candidate at Yale. It was the largest Master Class to date, and included 57 young musicians from nine South Fork middle and high schools.

The 2009 Elizabeth Brockman Music Award includes a $1,000 cash prize, plus participation in the awards presentation and a solo performance at the Playhouse Project Benefit Award Concert, Saturday, June 13, at 6 p.m. Shanna will perform her Master Class piece, "Movements," for the concert audience along with performances by fellow award winner, Elizabeth Oldak and internationally acclaimed Vocal Quartet "Anonymous 4."

Tickets for the show are $125 per person. For more information, call 631-604-2852 or visit www.playhouseproject.org. The Playhouse Project is a sponsored project of NYFA, a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization.
