An Evening With Wody Girtch Mama
Ross School will be presenting an evening of dance theater with Wody Girtch Mama in the Court Theater on Friday, May 22, at 7:30 p.m. Following the performance, WLIU radio show host
Bonnie Grice will lead a discussion/dialogue about the issues women and girls face today and how Wody Girtch Mama reflects them. A portion of the funds raised will benefit the Steven J. Ross Scholarship Fund.
Choreographed by Kate Mueth, artist-in-residence at Ross, Wody Girtch Mama is comprised of 18 separate dance pieces exploring what it feels like to be a girl, woman and mother in today's world. Funny, aching, soulful, playful and powerful, it touches on things women try to hide, hate or are fearful of, as well as the wisdom, joy and humor they hold.
This all-woman cast features girls, teens and adult woman, mostly from the Ross School community, including Ross students Emma Lesser, Emma Engle, Sylvia Channing, Tessa Von Walderdorf, Alayah Hewie, Elia Doyle and
Brenna Leaver.
"Wody Girtch Mama reaches to express honestly the feelings we hold and pushes to find a higher level where we are free to exude our original strength of mind and spirit and celebrate our innate physicality," said Mueth. "In the end, we are left with a hopeful stance on our place in the world."
Admission to the production is $25 for adults and $15 for students and seniors.
