Marking the end of one chapter in their lives and the beginning of another, the senior class of 2009 graduated from Ross School during a beautiful commencement ceremony in the Great Hall on June 13.
The fifth graders in 5A and 5B made a quilt for the American Heart Association's Heart of the Hamptons fundraising event, which will be held this summer. The theme of the quilt is love and having heart.
Exploring the mind's eye, the second grade at Ross School performed "Imagine Me and You" for the entire Lower School on May 21.
The Ross School's first annual Golf Outing at the famed Bridge Golf Club, designed by Rees Jones, ASGCA, in Bridgehampton, was a huge success. More than 40 golfers played on the dramatic 18-hole walking course on May 18. Steve Maietta, Bill Rockford and Tim Davis won gift certificates to The Bridge Pro Shop for "Closest to the Flag," while Ron Delsener, NY Chairman of Live Nation, won the 50/50 raffle, presented by Michele Claeys, Head of School.
Shanna Rae Polley, a 15-year-old student at the Ross School, was one of two recipients of the 2009 Elizabeth Brockman Music Award, based on her original composition work, "Movements," performed at this past week's Fifth Annual Project Playhouse Master Class.
East Hampton High School junior David Ward was able to train with the Ross Cafe chefs as part of Career Connections, a program that links Ross with its school-side neighbor.
Ross School will be presenting an evening of dance theater with Wody Girtch Mama in the Court Theater on Friday, May 22, at 7:30 p.m.
According to staff at the Ross School the school's spring musical, "South Pacific," was a huge success. Featuring students in grades seven through 12, the production is said to have recaptured the magic of the box office hit.
Ross School will present its 2009 High School Spring Concert on Thursday, May 21 at 7 p.m. The concert will feature musical performances by the school's jazz band, chorus and chamber ensemble, as well as ballet, jazz and world dance performances.
Students Moss Turpan, Hannah Baker, Patricia Milligan, Sydney Dratel, David Kaner and Nathaniel Oppenheimer made the first round of the PSAT/NMSPQ, a preliminary test that serves as an initial screen of about 1.5 million entrants each year.
The junior varsity boys tennis team at Ross held its first home match on the School's brand new har-tru tennis courts on April 15, marking a new chapter in the School's athletic achievements. This historically strong team once again came out on top, beating East Hampton 4-3.
Ross School is pleased to announce its 2009 spring musical will be "South Pacific," a Rodgers and Hammerstein classic. Four performances will take place, on Wednesday, May 13, Thursday, May 14, Friday, May 15 and Saturday, May 16 at 7pm in the Ross School Court Theater.
On April 29, the High School was blown away by the soulful and commanding spoken word performances of Abraham Velazquez, Carvens Lissaint and Kiara Townes from Urban Word NYC.
The Ross School Gallery hosted its annual M-Term Opening on April 16, featuring paintings, photographs, video footage and sketches by the students who travelled to Morocco, Tanzania, Belize, Italy and the American Southwest with the School for M-Term.
Ross School is pleased to present professional stage performances featuring four original plays by Ross students. The eighth grade class at Ross School has been hard at work writing and directing their own plays as As participants in Stony Brook Southampton's new Young American Writers Project (YAWP).
Ross School seniors were able to compare and contrast traditional Chinese dance and music with the modern day equivalent on March 30. Barbara Tjiong, the head of the Plainview Chinese Cultural Center, was invited to speak to the students in the Senior Lecture Hall.
Ross alumni Kinara Flagg, a first-year law student at Columbia Law School, placed second at the national Frederick Douglas Moot Court competition in Irvine, CA. The three-day competition, from March 19 to March 21, featured six rounds of oral arguments.
Students, parents and faculty came together to celebrate the eighth grade's Medieval-inspired artwork during their Guild Project exhibit on March 25. Held outside the Ross Café, the exposition was a culmination of the students' Guild Projects, during which they spent two days as apprentices, training with master artists.
Ross School is pleased to announce four of its High School students have been named to Congressman Tim Bishop's Student Advisory Council. Nathaniel Oppenheimer, Danielle Gingerich, Alexa Barrett and Moss Turpan, all juniors, were nominated by Mark Frankel, Director of the High School, based upon their outstanding records in leadership, academics and interest in government and politics.
Barbara Raeder's fifth graders took their class to the Senior Lecture Hall on March 18. As part of their studies on Ancient Indus Valley Civilizations and the roots of Hinduism, the students embodied different Hindu gods and goddesses and presented a brief biography on their chosen deity. The presentations were given in a classroom format on stage with parents, students and faculty merely "observing" from a distance.
