The Southampton Hospital Ellen Hermanson Breast Center was a partial beneficiary of the 2009 Long Island 2 Day Walk. Ginny Salerno and Noreen Wohlgemuth of the Long Island 2 Day Walk attended the recent opening of the new Breast Center at Southampton Hospital and presented the donation check which will be used toward patient care.

Melvin Campbell, a Lead Housekeeper in the Environmental Services Department at Southampton Hospital, has been chosen as the Hospital's Employee of the Quarter for the fourth quarter of 2008. A resident of Westhampton, Melvin has been an employee of the Hospital for nearly 12 years.
They began with 21 housewives who decided to sweep the streets and tidy up their village by the sea in 1895. Dubbing themselves the Ladies Village Improvement Society (LVIS), they held their first fundraiser by hosting a supper party on New Year's Eve and since that went well they decided to hold a fair the following summer in 1896. If Ebenezer Scrooge ever came to the town of Southampton over the Christmas holidays, the legendary Dickens' character would find nowhere he could yell out a "Bah-Humbug!," warded off by the thousands of gifts dispersed this year by Human Resources of the Hamptons (HRH). Chase Matzen Rao may be a typical 12-year-old, maybe not, but he is also a local hero. He saved his best friend from choking at lunchtime during the sixth grade class's turn in the cafeteria at the Southampton Intermediate School. The heroic event occurred at the Leland Lane school lunchroom earlier this month.
