Hamptons Auto Classic Auction Ramps Up This Weekend In Bridgehampton

Bridgehampton - The Hamptons Auto Classic auction, now in its 15th year, is featuring some extremely rare and highly desirable classic motor cars, with previews beginning at 2 p.m. on Friday, June 12 at Hayground School on Mitchell Lane in Bridgehampton. The Bidders' Cocktail Reception, which benefits Habitat for Humanity of Peconic, begins Friday at 6 p.m. On Saturday, June 13, gates open at 8 a.m. and The Hamptons Auto Classic auction starts promptly at 12 noon.

A highlight of the Hamptons' early summer scene, the auction has a magnificent 1962 Ferrari 250 PF II cabriolet as the star of its 2009 offerings. This car is a multiple show winner and is likely to exceed its current value in a short time if the $12,500,000 price tag recently paid at auction for a Ferrari racecar sets any example.

Another highly desirable car up for bid is a 1964 AC 289 Cobra, the first collaboration between legendary racer, Carroll Shelby, and the century-old British AC company. According to the purists, the highly drivable and more aesthetically pleasing '289s are catching up in value with the more brutish, powerful 427 cu. in. 'Shelby' Cobras - "and rightly so," they say.

For the star-struck, there's an opportunity to own a gorgeous '57 Corvette from the collection of Max Weinberg, renowned drummer who has moved with Conan O'Brien to lead the band on "The Tonight Show" and also has been the featured drummer with many rock groups, including Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band.

A 1964 Cobra will be view.

As always, points out event founder and organizer Peter Mole, "The Hamptons Auto Classic is the place to invest in Jaguars, Austin Healeys, Mercedes Benz and Porsches, a Bentley or two, and some striking American masterpieces as well.

Classic cars are fast-appreciating assets you can actually drive and enjoy."
For those attending, beverages will be on hand and breakfast and lunch will be available at the Pit Stop Café.

Oooooh! While I won't be there to buy, I certainly won't stop myself from taking a look.
