Southampton - After a long awaited 13 years, it is with great honor that The Shinnecock Indian Nation presents to you it's new Miss Shinnecock Teen. On Saturday, June 13, at the Southampton Inn ballroom, in Southampton, the young Miss Autumn Rose Williams was crowned Miss Shinnecock Teen 2009, alongside the younger Miss Mattah Wright, who was crowned Miss Shinnecock Junior Teen 2009 - a new category added to this year's competition. A crowd of more than 200 expanded beyond the ballroom doors to bear witness to this wonderful event!

Autumn Rose, currently finishing her freshman year at the Ross School in East Hampton, is the daughter of Lauryn Randall and Donald Williams, Jr. Mattah will soon be entering the seventh grade at Southampton Intermediate School, and is the daughter of Wendy Gardner and Tribal Trustee Gordell Wright.

In the Miss Shinnecock Teen category, Cholena Smith, daughter of Josephine Smith and Gerrod Smith, placed as first runner-up; and Seneca Smith, daughter of Karen and Lyle S. Smith, placed as second runner-up. Joshaya Trotman, daughter of Cherisse Trotman and Randell Jones, won the place of first runner-up in the Miss Shinnecock Junior Teen category; and Olivia Robinson, daughter of Marcrina and Tony Robinson, won second runner-up.

All 13 of the contestants were awarded participation certificates, bouquets, gift bags from The Body Shop and complimentary movie tickets donated from Alternative Counseling Services. Alternatives has also graciously agreed to sponsor the newly crowned Miss Shinnecock Teen and Miss Shinnecock Jr. Teen's visits to the various pow-wows and Native conferences held across Indian Country that they are slated to attend this summer.
