Southampton - The "Lighting of the Windmill" at Stony Brook-Southampton featured music from the University's marching band. Participants enjoyed hot cocoa, cider and holiday treats while listening to jazz music during the ceremony.

University President Shirley Strum Kenny and Dean Schoonen, among other dignitaries, presided over the annual ceremony that marks the illumination of the historic windmill. The switch was thrown by Congressman Tim Bishop.

This was the last Windmill Lighting ceremony for Kenny as presiding president of the university, as she has announced her upcoming retirement.
