Staff Faves: Holiday Flicks

(Images courtesy of respective production companies)

Southampton - Everybody loves a list! The Top 10 this or the Top 5 that where everyone gets to weigh in with support for their favorites. We've rounded up the very opinionated staff of editors, writers, and tech savvy folks here at Hamptons.com and will be posing a question weekly and we want your feedback. Up this week, "Holiday Flicks" and we think you'll be surprised at the results.

The end of the year is famous for reruns of classic (and in some cases, infamous) movies with some of the most beloved (or, reviled) characters. We polled the Hamptons.com staff and here are our picks for the "Top Holiday Flicks" that you should be watching this month.

What Are The Top Five Holiday Flicks?

1. "A Christmas Story" - Classic lines such as "You'll shoot your eye out!" and "The Mother of all bad words..." resonate to this day and pop up again and again at family gatherings on Christmas Day. Who can forget Ralphie in the bunny costume, Dad fondling the "fragile" leg lamp, Chinese turkey, and little brother Randy who can't put his arms down because Mom lovingly "bundled" him up? This classic has heart and humor which is why it's our top pick.

2. "National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation" - Christmas with the Griswolds is a John Hughes classic starring Chevy Chase, Beverly D'Angelo, and Randy Quaid.

3. "It's A Wonderful Life" - Since 1946, audiences have loved Frank Capra's classic tale starring James Stewart and Donna Reed - and we do too.

4. There was a six-way tie for fourth place between "Home Alone" that put Macaulay Cauklin on the map, "White Christmas" with Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye, "A Charlie Brown Christmas" - great for kids, "Miracle on 34th Street," "Die Hard" (it takes place during Christmas), and "Elf" with Will Ferrell.

5. There was a two-way tie for fifth place with "The Holiday" and "The Grinch Who Stole Christmas" rounding out the list.

Other films mentioned that did not make the top five were (in no particular order)...

 • "Love Actually"
 • "Scrooged"
 • "All I Want For Christmas"
 • "Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer"
 • "The Santa Clause"
 • "A Year Without Santa Claus"
 • "Mr. Magoo's Christmas Carol"
 • "The Muppets Christmas Carol"
 • "Polar Express"
 • "The Nightmare Before Christmas"
 • "Jingle All The Way"
