Championship play for the 2013 U.S. Women's Open Golf Championship at the Sebonack Golf Club begins on Thursday, June 27, 2013, but the activities will officially kick off a couple days earlier.
Starting on Monday, June 24, participants in the championship will arrive to partake in practice rounds that will continue through June 26. The rounds will tee off at around 6:45 am and last until the early evening. Tickets to view the practice rounds can be purchased for $20 per day.
During the lead up to the tournament, the United States Golf Association will also be holding certain special events. On Tuesday, June 25, at 2 pm, 2010 Women's Open champion Paula Creamer and the Today Show's Matt Lauer
will host a Junior Clinic on the Sebonack practice range. Creamer and Lauer will speak on their backgrounds and love for the game of golf, followed some exhibition play. Admission is free for all spectators.
The next day, June 26, will feature the Dennis Walters Golf Show at 3 pm on the Sebonack driving range. Paralyzed from the waist down, Dennis Walters will demonstrate his golfing ability by putting on a show of trick shots, all while sitting in his wheelchair. He will be joined by his dog Bucky who famously barks out the answers to Walters' trivia questions. Admission to the Dennis Walters Golf Show is free.
The main event tees off at 6:45 am on June 27 with the first round of championship play. The field will consist of 156 players who will tee off in groups of three. The admissions gate opens at 6:45 am with tickets starting at $40 and live televised programming from 3-7 pm on ESPN2. The second round will be played on June 28 and follows the exact same format, but upon its completion the field will be cut from 156 competitors down to 60 finalists.
Play resumes at 8 am Saturday, June 29 with the third round; followed by the final, fourth round also at 8 am on June 30. Admissions gates will open at 7 am with tickets available starting at $40. Play will continue until approximately 6 pm on both nights, with a trophy presentation ceremony on the 18th green immediately following Sunday's fourth-round play. Both the third and fourth round will be televised by NBC from 3-6 pm.
