Surf And Slide Co., a new startup that matches apparel with local charitable campaigns, has created a new shirt that backs the Sag Harbor Cinema restoration efforts.
“As a lifelong visitor of Sag Harbor Village I was heartbroken to see the headlines last December about the Main Street fire and even more disheartened when I saw that the Sag Harbor Cinema had taken the brunt of the damage,” shared Jack Keating. “The theatre represents a lot of what makes Sag Harbor a special place – that feeling that time skipped over this salty corner of the world – a place where you could buy a kite at the corner store, watch the boats with some ice cream, or catch a cheap film at the cinema.”
With the Sag Harbor Partnership, who is spearheading the campaign to save and rebuild the Sag Harbor Cinema, having such a hefty fundraising goal, Keating felt compelled to do absolutely everything he could to help. “Donating 100 percent of the profits (after the cost of printing the shirts) for this campaign was an obvious choice,” he explained. “I couldn’t bear to see the Sag Harbor Partnership come up short of their $6 million goal because I pocketed a few bucks along the way.”
The Partnership must raise $8 million by December 31, 2017, and 75 percent of that – $6 million – must be obtained by July 1, 2017. So far the Partnership has already raised over $2 million, including a generous contribution by Billy Joel who will have a Popcorn Stand at the Cinema named in his honor.
“We’re so grateful for their support, and their commitment shows how important the Cinema is to everybody on the East End!” expressed April Gornik of the Sag Harbor Partnership.
In addition to the Sag Harbor t-shirts, Surf And Slide Co. also offers “Make Montauk Less Great Again” hats, with 50 percent of the proceeds benefiting Surfrider Foundation – Eastern Long Island Chapter, Surf And Slide Co. Tank Tops, with 50 percent of the proceeds benefiting Wounded Warrior Project, and Runners, with 50 percent of the proceeds benefiting Waves For Water.
The Sag Harbor Surf And Slide Co. t-shirt is available in white and black. T-shirts are $30.
