It may be the last thing we are thinking about in this mild October sunshine bathing the Hamptons and Manhattan, but lace up the ice skates and pour the hot chocolate because an ice rink with the world's best views is coming to Battery Park City this winter. The Rink at Brookfield Place will open a 105 foot ice haven in November that will feature the most stunning views of Lower Manhattan, the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island and New Jersey.
Located on the upper plaza between the Winter Garden and the North Cove Marina, The Rink at Brookfield Place will have a capacity of 250 people at a time and be open every day from 10 AM to 10 PM from mid-November through mid-March.
Liberty View Ice Rink and Brookfield Office Properties will operate and handle logistics, including ice skate rentals and sharpening, as well as hosting events, skating and hockey classes and other activities. The rates will be $12.50 per session, $5 for skate rentals and $15 for skate sharpening.
"Nothing can compare to skating outdoors with Lower Manhattan as your backdrop," said General Manager Rob Miller. "We are proud to launch The Rink at Brookfield Place to the neighborhood in time for the holiday season. This is a great opportunity to bring the residents, businesses and visitors of Downtown New York together as a community."
