- Eastern Long Island Hospital announced the appointment of Douglas R. Mathie
to the Board of Trustees Class of 2011. Founder and owner of Douglas R. Mathie Funeral Service since 1981, Mathie is a New York State Licensed funeral director with over 34 years of professional experience. He purchased and restored the S.B. Horton Funeral Home in 2002 located in the Village of Greenport. The Horton-Mathie Funeral Home serves all faiths on the North Fork and Shelter Island for both burials and cremations.
Mathie's interest in community is evidenced through his charitable involvement in many events over the years for local organizations including East End Hospice

, Relay for Life, Orient Historical Society, Greenport Historical Society, Rotary, North Fork Chamber of Commerce, the Greenport Maritime Festival and CAST.

Mathie is a member of the NYS Funeral Directors Association, and the Nassau Suffolk Funeral Directors Association. He is a member of the Nassau County Community College Advisory Board of Mortuary Science. In addition, he is the Past Chairman of the Green Hill Cemetery of Greenport. A year round resident of Greenport, Doug has a 12 year old son. His interests include hunting, fishing and outdoor photography.
