- April is National Donate Life Month and The New York Organ Donor Network, the East Hampton Lions Club and Southampton Hospital
will host the fourth annual "Life, Live It, Give It," on Thursday, April 15, at 12:30 p.m., in the Hospital's Annex Learning Center located at 330 Meeting House Lane in Southampton.
Participants will receive information on how to become an organ, eye or tissue donor. Dr. Richard Panebianco and a representative from the New York Organ Donor Network will be in attendance. By sharing the gift of life, one organ donor can save up to eight lives.
Healthy Kidneys - Healthy You
Dr. Gaylord Hoffert, M.D., a board-certified Nephrologist will present a lecture titled "Healthy Kidneys - Healthy You" on Thursday, April 22, at 5:30 p.m., at Southampton Hospital's Parrish Memorial Hall on the corner of Lewis Street and Herrick Road.
According to the National Kidney Foundation, 26 million Americans have chronic kidney disease. Dr. Hoffert will describe the function of kidneys, the signs and symptoms of failing kidneys, risk factors for disease and how a diet high in antioxidants, fruits and vegetables, and low in salt and cholesterol can impact kidney function.
Dr. Hoffert has a practice in Southampton and is also the medical director of Southampton Hospital's Regional Dialysis Center in Hampton Bays.
