The beautiful landmark that symbolizes home to many Long Islanders. (Christopher Beninati))

Montauk - On Saturday, July 23, Long Island Wines hosted the Fifth Annual "Night at the Light' fundraiser event for the historic Montauk Point Lighthouse

The event boosted a large tent at the base of the giant East End landmark with nine Long Island wineries, including Martha Clara Vineyards, Channing Daughters Winery, The Wolffer Estate, Banfi Vinters, Bedell Cellars, Jamesport Vineyards, Lieb Family Cellars, Osprey Dominon Vineyards and Palmer Vineyards along with newcomer to this year's event, Blue Point Brewery, a live jazz band and passed hors d'doeuvres by catering company The Art of Eating.

The host of the evening was the Montauk Chamber of Commerce with support from many local sponsors including Bridgehampton National Bank, Gurneys Inn, Mickey's Carting, Gosmans Dock and more. Long Island wines from nine local vineyards were available and Blue Point Brewery, who were offering numerous ales and lagers to taste.

Music was provided by the Mike Ficco Jazz Quartet who entertained the crowd with every song. As the music played to the perfect landscape many guests enjoyed receiving their wines with celebrity pourers and attendees including "The Sopranos" star Aida Turturro. As elegant and delectable treats were passed many guests put their bets in for the silent auction which included beautiful paintings by local artists, gift certificates to trendy restaurants, gift bags from several boutiques, as well as a huge selection of sporting and Hollywood memorabilia. Many signed autographs from sports and Hollywood legends were also being offered.

Representatives from the Montauk Chamber of Commerce thanked everybody for their support as running the Lighthouse is a tremendous feat each and every year. Guests were then encouraged to visit the Montauk Lighthouse Museum to view works of Heinz Emil Salloch: Long Island Watercolors, 1938-1939, the works will be on display through August 2. Also on display are new documents signed by Founding Fathers Thomas Jefferson and George Washington approving the construction of the lighthouse.

Standing in the presence of the beautiful iconic structure and behind the Atlantic Ocean it was clear why the Montauk Point Lighthouse has many supporters year after year. To many locals the lighthouse represent home and the love for home was definitely shown this past Saturday.

Just some of the great items available during the silent auction. (Christopher Beninati)
