Southampton - The Southampton Historical Museum has organized a series of seven historic walking tours of Southampton homes and neighborhoods lead by well-known architects. Tours take place every Sunday beginning on Sunday, June 26 (except for July 4th weekend) though Sunday, August 23. The tours start at 11 a.m. each Sunday and will last for one hour. Admission is $10 per person and free for members of the Southampton Historical Museum. Please note that starting locations for each tour begin at different addresses.
On Sunday, June 26 at 11 a.m. the walk will begin on the corner of Halsey Lane and Mecox Road, in front of the horse pasture and will be about the history of Halsey Lane, Mecox Road to Paul's Lane, Bridgehampton with
Marjorie Goldberg.
The next walk will take place on Sunday, July 10 at 11 a.m. with
Siamak Samii, starting at
Rogers Mansion, 17
Meeting House Lane, Southampton and will give the brief history of the
Parrish Art Museum Grounds and plans for its future. On Sunday, July 17 at 11 a.m. the walk will begin at the public parking area at The Southampton Bathing Corporation located at 14 Gin Lane. This walk will include a discussion with
Gary Lawrance about the first summer residents from NYC who came to Southampton and settled, forming the Summer Colony. The last walk in July, on Sunday, July 24 at 11 a.m., will feature
Bill Chaleff and will start at The Thomas Halsey Homestead, 249 South Main Street, Southampton Village This walk will have a discussion on how our historic homes exemplified by Halsey House, are "green" according to today's standard of design and construction. We will "sleuth" our way through the subject building looking at materials, construction, technology, citing and culture in order to see how integrated design , cultural and technological evolution worked to produce an indigenous iconic building, and how houses continue to evolve, reflecting the ever changing demands of time and place.
On Sunday, August 7 at 11 a.m. at the corner of Post Lane and Little Plains Road, Southampton Village,
Brian Brady talk about the correct way to detail doors, entrances, dormers and porches. Next on Sunday, August 14; 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Poland Church, Maple Street, Southampton Village
John Laffey will lead a discussion on the renovation of Our Lady of Poland Church. The last walk will be on Sunday, August 21 at 11 a.m. beginning on the corner of John Street and Elm Street, Southampton Village and will include a discussion with
Eric Woodward about late Victorian, early 20th century, and Arts and Crafts style homes.
