•
Plan - Look at what type of natural environment you have. In the Hamptons, there are three main areas including farm fields, seashore, and woods. When you analyze your property, don't try to imagine that you're somewhere else. Work with what you have.
•
Create A Natural Plant List - Research plants that are native to the area. If you must go with exotics, find plants that are conducive to the climate.
•
Cultivate The Soil - Aerate your soil once a week. Keeping the soil healthy will eliminate the need for extra fertilizer.
•
Fertilize With Organic Compost - Adding a layer of compost or manure, available at most home and garden centers, will make your soil rich and your plants healthy.
•
Practice Good Pruning And Trimming - Research the plants in your yard and find out what time of year they need to be pruned and trimmed. This will minimize spraying.
