Pleasing Wedding Favors

Elegant and delectable, Godiva chocolates are always a welcome wedding favor. (Godiva Chocolates)

Southampton - Wedding favors, as you probably know by now, can run the gamut. I've been to weddings in which brand-name picture frames were given out to each departing couple and I've been to weddings where cookies were distributed in paper bags to exiting guests. With such a range, how do you decide what you will be gifting your beloved guests, as a thank you for sharing this most exciting day of your life?

The first rule of thumb is to calculate your favor budget. But do keep in mind that you don't have to spend a small fortune. The idea behind a thoughtful favor is - the thought. I can't tell you how much it pains me to see couples spend money on favors that are monogrammed (unless your guests share your exact initials, why would they want such a gift?), impractical, useless or just plain tacky.

Secondly, to narrow down the options, select a favor that fits in with your wedding theme, with the wedding season, or with your personality as a couple.

Offer seasonal fragrances with a tasteful candle. (Thymes)

For example, if you're having a formal, black tie event, you'd want to offer a correspondingly elegant gift, such as Godiva Celebration Cake Couture Favors (each looks like a mini wedding cake, inspired by renowned New York cake artist Sylvia Weinstock). A favor that fits in with the season might be an aromatic candle. Try Thymes Offerings Love (scented with tuberose, dewy jasmine, golden apricot nectar and exotic Hinoki wood) and include your personal message within the inner package. Are you a warm, sentimental couple? Then consider an inspirational gift, such as the little keepsake book "Celebrating Love" (Andrews McMeel Publishing, 2011).

Once you have decided on the budget and type of favor, do go ahead and explore the internet. You'll find thousands of resources at your fingertips but before you order, remember - when it comes to wedding favors, it is absolutely the thought that counts.
