New York City - The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade of the Argentine Republic brought a representation of Argentina's fashion creativity to New York at one of the most prestigious fashion events of the world:
Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. The event took place at The Promenade in Bryant Park on Thursday, Sept. 17.
Five well-known and established Argentine designers showed a selection from their Spring 2010 runway collections. They were selected by a jury of fashion editors and stylists. The selection was based on the designers' creativity, career and readiness to show internationally. These are:
Benito Fernandez,
Cardón,
Eufemia,
Min Agostini and
Fabian Zitta.
Fernandez opened the show with a use of bold patterns and flowing silks and chiffons. His tiered mini dresses and long skirts were especially beautiful, as well as the layered floral head dress necklace accessories which adorned the garment. Cardon's collection reflected the affluent Argentine farm style with tunic tops and loose trousers tucked into riding boots. There was great contrast among the leather fabrics, flowy linens, and silver accessories. Purple and chartreuse popped against the white linens. Eufenmia celebrated vanguardia: the avant garde with futuristic silhouettes and metallic colors. The shoulders were emphasized and geometric cutouts were prevalent fun details. Min Agostini's collection stuck to a stark white color palette. Everything was very organic and the shape of the garments were reminiscent of blooming flowers. The appliquéd skull caps complemented the over-all look. Zitta's silk organza dresses were the purest form of femininity with ruffles and quilted trim at the hem of the skirts. The shimmering blush and champagne colors added the element of glamour to the collection.
It is evident that these five designers stuck to their roots yet at the same time displayed new ideas to the New York fashion scene. An after party celebration was in order as a creative mix of 70 people dined at Gusto Organics in the West Village. Benito Fernadez, Pancho Dotto and some of the main models attended including
Dolores Barreiro, movie producer
Diego Radivoy and actor
Maximiliano Palacio.
