Southampton - If you are required to run around the Hamptons, or to stand for hours, tottering on high heels, particularly on uneven surfaces while your ankles swell and your only thought is to get your shoes off and elevate your legs, then along with all those other must have fashion accessories we all love, you know - the latest designer pocketbook or sunglasses - consider a shoe that is actually designed to duplicate walking on soft, natural ground - the way our bodies were designed to walk - drum roll please - for the MBT - which is designed to address three things:

(1) Repeated Shock: Every step you take you come down with three times your body's weight of force. This sends shock up through your foot, ankle, knee, hip joints as well as your spine. The patented Masai heel sensor absorbs a great deal of this shock and stops it from travelling up through your joints.
(2) Weak Stability/Core Muscles: MBT's balance shank and pivot ("see-saw") helps your body to activate stability and core muscles that protect your joints and spine. This system of muscles is not activated on flat, stable surfaces. Strengthening stability and core muscles are the best way to prevent pain and injury in feet, knees, hips and back. Use these muscles or lose them. Poor core muscles are also responsible for poor posture/alignment.
(3) Poor Circulation: Did you know that 98 percent of your body mass compresses into your heels and forefoot. This restricts circulation through feet and legs causing pain, swelling and lack of blood flow to areas that need healing and recovery. By balancing on MBT's "see-saw" shank and pivot, your weight is centered in the middle of your foot and the compression is lifted out of the heel and forefoot allowing for increased circulation.
Once these three factors above are taken care of, you are much less likely to suffer from foot, knee, hip and back pain.
Since most of us have become accustomed to walking with our lower body behind our center of gravity and pulling us forward with each step, MBT shoes help to realign your stride and body. However, MBT is not a toning shoe - toning is a by-product of what MBT was designed to do - MBT was designed to help make walking and standing more comfortable and less painful, increasing self-stability and using core muscles.
Having recently acquired a pair of the MBT sneakers, you'll immediately feel the natural rolling movement when you walk, which definitely makes you feel like you are walking on a soft, natural terrain. The shoes do take a bit of getting used to, but the improvement in circulation, lower back pressure relief, improved posture and balance, and most importantly COMFORT are just fantastic. I was reluctant to take mine off and hope they design a bedroom slipper soon!
As the originator of the Physiological Footwear category, and in business for more than 15 years, MBT offers active, stylish footwear with built-in stability that can help increase movement throughout the entire body while standing and walking. The shoes do come come with a manual that gives you some tips on how to wear both the closed and open styles, as well as the proper way to walk and stand, along with some exercise tips to train small, stabilizing muscles and increase coordination. MBTs are now available in over 55 countries worldwide, and their global headquarters are in Winterthur, Switzerland.
So the next time you have to dash to some event, or find yourself standing in an open field under a tent, roll your feet back and forth and enjoy your private see-saw ride while others search for a seat.
