Lacoste commissions a guest designer to re-imagine its iconic L.12.12 polo as part of the Holiday Collector's Series. For the 2011 edition, Lacoste has invited American designer
Jonathan Adler to conceive an exclusive and equally exciting polo and packaging project that may very well leave you questioning whether it is better to give or to receive.
Known for work that mixes modernist forms with bold colors and groovy graphics, the Jonathan Adler name is a promise of impeccable craftsmanship and distinctive design. His contemporary yet timeless style - an aesthetic he calls "Happy Chic" is every bit as vivacious and unique as the designer himself.
For the Holiday Collector's Series, Adler's idea was to take the iconic Lacoste logo and overlay some of his favorite patterns and colors from his own needlepoint pillows.
The Special Edition Polos feature an oversized crocodile logo in these patterns with matching sporty side stripes at bottom right crafted using a rubber-flocked printing technique that replicates the look and feel of needlepoint but without its additional weight. This edition comes in five colors for men and four for women, all packaged in an actual needlepoint pillowcase with a large white crocodile against blue and navy diagonal stripes.
The Limited Edition Polos have the same sporty crocodile logo and stripes motif but are actually needlepointed. With two colors for men and two for women, the edition is limited to 1,212 pieces for each gender. All are packaging in color coordinated tennis racquet covers with a needlepointed crocodile head and Adler motif.
