Let's Talk Boats, Lunch In Montauk, Shopping East Hampton And Just A Little Gossip

Southampton - Is it mid-July already? I know I sound like a broken record, but the summer is flying by and I haven't enjoyed the Hamptons until today. I remember a few years ago (actually almost eight) Bobby and I bought our first of four boats. We went from a 40-foot SeaRay Sundancer, to a 50-foot SeaRay Sundancer, to a 42-foot Aft Cabin (felt larger) SeaRay to a 72-foot San Lorenzo.

Darren (my assistant) and I recently took a drive to the Montauk Yacht Club for lunch. He has never been to Montauk and I wanted to show him why so many people count this area as a home away from home or just their home.

Being on the water having lunch reminded me of our boating years and living on the "docks." The Montauk Yacht Club feels like you are 1,000 miles away from NYC. We enjoyed chips and salsa and simple salads with the most delicious shrimp I have had all summer. Though the weather wasn't perfect - the day was.

We took Old Montauk Highway toward home passing Gurney's Inn (a totally different feeling as it is located directly on the ocean), and passed many hotels/motels also on the ocean. It is too bad that we can't support a Four Seasons style hotel in that area. Since we are only "in season" for beach weather a few months a year, it would not be cost effective I suppose, but we can only hope that one day they might come?

Passing though Amangansett, the landscape changes from casual beach type homes to more manicured properties but still of "normal" size and shape. Then we turned left onto the famous Further Lane and they got bigger and bigger and bigger.

I haven't been in East Hampton all summer and forgot how special that area is. I used to have friends on Egypt Lane and always loved visiting them. By now we were ready for ice cream so we parked on Main Street and walked around. I have to say that East Hampton is my favorite town to shop in. I love Southampton too, but there is something special here. Ralph Lauren was having an insane 25 percent off all sale items so I had to "save something" and bought gold wedge shoes with an ankle strap to wear on grass.

I am always worried about sinking my expensive Louboutin heels in the grass at Polo or a charity event on soft ground. I will test these at Polo this weekend. We browsed all the stores and didn't find anything that said "buy me" so we shared mud pie ice cream and left town.

Since Darren had not traveled passed Water Mill, I wanted to give him the full tour. We stopped by a new store (at least new to me!) Belhaus in Wainscott. I was surprised to see it on Montauk Highway. It is a very high-end couture store. The entire store was on sale - 50 percent - off including the make-up which I had to buy. I love the two-sided lip liner from Vincent Longo so I got two for the price of one! I think they would do much better if it was in East Hampton but with the amount of square feet they have the rent would be enormous. The buyer definitely has a point of view and can do very well with a loyal following. I tried to say hello to the owner but he was out of town.

Next stop - Levain Bakery. I admit I am a recovering CCC addict, (Chocolate Chip Cookie) . I haven't been there in a year but had to stop by. The owner was there and as usual, when I asked her for all the CCC's in the store she could only produce one.

Imagine if I made a special trip? It was 3 p.m. and they close at 5 p.m. I asked her "why don't you just bake a few dozen at one time" she said "what would I do with the leftovers if they all didn't sell?" Imagine - making cookies without someone to buy them? So you know what they did? They baked them right then and there and you wait 20 minutes. If a line develops and you are at the end, you pray no one orders more than she made so you won't have to wait another 20 minutes when it's your turn! The Soup Nazi from "Seinfeld" came to mind!

After we had the honor of buying the last cookie and sharing it, we went to TJ Maxx. It is hit or miss there and I always walk out with something I definitely don't need. By now I am exhausted but still have stops to make. One more at a local fruit/plant stand in Water Mill. I actually took a picture of the largest squash I ever saw. Go to my Twitter if you want to see it.

I had to buy a few plants for the house and then finally headed home, stopping for gas on the way. It feels really good to get a lot done, especially when all I usually want to do is sit in the house or by the pool all day, (under shade, I try not to do sun).

I am getting the house ready now for some special guests this weekend. My dearest friend remarried last year and moved away so I cherish their weekends visiting here. We have a typical schedule of parties, fundraisers and charity events but you will have to wait until next week for the recap! Have a happy and healthy week!

Hi Jill,

Hope you and your family are doing well and enjoying the summer? My question is: you recently had a breast reduction and I was wondering if your doctor could recommend or suggest someone in the Boston area? I am really looking to get mine reduced as well. I started to look into it previously but its hard to find a good doctor to perform the surgery.

Thanks so much! Love the show and thanks for being on Facebook!

Sincerely,
Christina Turcotte

Hi Christina,

I don't know a good doctor in Boston but you have the BEST doctors in the world here. For a personal recommendation you need top ask all your friends. Send out a mass email, post it on your Facebook - whatever - but get one!

Good Luck!

Jill Zarin

Dear Jill,

As an outside observer and someone who really liked you the first season, it seems like fame has REALLY gone to your head.

You're talking about a talk show, comparing your cast to "Friends," etc.

Don't you think you need to check yourself? Control the ego just a bit more?

Chris

Dear Chris,

I am happy to answer your question even though it is mean-spirited. People who say things like that are usually jealous, which is a very destructive emotion. Most people know this, but I will share it with you - don't believe everything you read or even see when it is related to the gossip columns and glossies. I will say there is usually a thread or more of truth, but most likely exaggerated to make the story more fun for readers - often at the expense of celebrities and their families. I love to forward the articles when they get emailed to me on Google alerts and forward to my closest friends and family and tell them what is true and what isn't. I think I should keep track over a period of time and publish my findings. One came out today - NONE OF IT TRUE. I happen to adore the writer and wish he had fact checked with me first. I will address the "comparing your cast to friends" when I was asked something quickly on a red carpet. I was asked about what I thought of people being on the same show making different amounts of money. I said that I liked what the cast of "Friends" did, negotiate together as a group even though some had become more famous than others over the years, since they all started together they should stick together. There was no comparison made to our show except to say we are both ensemble casts. You last question was about my "ego." My "ego" is fine, thank you, how is yours?

Have a fun summer!

Jill Zarin

Thank you all for the lovely compliments. Unfortunately, I am not allowed to comment on the status of negotiations or anything regarding Season 3. You will have to watch and see what happens!

LOl.LOL.LOL--Terry,Chris,Linda and Jordy. Agree! Took the very words from my mouth.

Jill Zarin from New York says:
Thank you so much for all your comments. If you have any questions for next weeks column..please email me at askjill@hamptons.com Have a great week!

BJ from New York says:
Jill, I would love to visit the Hamptons, but from what I read and see on television it looks intimidating to me. Can you tell me about what it is like there and any suggestions for a first visit?

real from easthampton native says:
Easthampton used to be a great place to live before hollywood showed up and ruined it.

amy from st. louis,mo. says:
jill I just read that you had dinner with that jerk jon gossling. Please say it ain't so!! You are great on the show!!

AJ from Upstate New York says:
Oh Jill - I can't believe in this day and age you "still" have to explain the PRESS to people. If I don't hear it from you on Facebook or Twitter or live than I just don't listen. Have a great summer and try and enjoy the weather. Maybe come visit upstate/Saratoga Breakfast at the track in the early morning is wonderful.

Linda from Pa says:
Jill-- I think you are the best on the show because you appear to be the most honest. Your lifestyle suits you and in this economy things certainly haven't appeared to slow down for you. That's great, but unfortunately that's not the case for most of America. I think the people who criticize you do it because some of your behavior now at this time is quite frankly annoying and inappropriate; do you really have to remind people who may be jobless and can't afford a vacation this summer that you've been through 4 boats? Also, you want an expensive hotel in Montauk? Wouldn't that be destroying the charm that draws you to it? My advice to you: stay close by your pool for the rest of the summer, enjoy your lucky self, and start reading the front page of newspapers to discover why people who may be less fortunate than you now find $16,000. bags and the rest of your charmed life a little too much to stomach. Please save it for after the recovery. Oh, and try not to fall in the mud in the Louboutins at Polo. (do you really not know how ridiculous that statement might sound to most people?)

Daria from E. Hampton says:
Liked your article. Think you could add a little more to it. Talk more about the things you talk about on RH. After all, if not for that show, you probably wouldn't be as read. I'm surprised to find that Bethenny was offered a show of her own. The RH series is good enough. Do we really need another show about people in the city? Don't think so. Besides, what is she going to offer that RHONY doesn't. How to lose weight using laxatives and not portion control? Anyway, I think GLORIA should be the one with her own show!! Now there is a woman who has something interesting and helpful to say!

Business is Business from This Planet says:
I was wondering how come there is never mention of Bethenney from you anymore. For someone so close she is like a sister it seems to be the opposite now. A lot of rumors are out there now and sometimes there is a little bit of truth they say. Hard to tell what is truth what is not. If something turned out to be true how will it be taken by all the people that admire you and think rumors are there from haters. I don't think it is the haters out there talking. I personally don't care one way or another but I know people would respect you if you admitted that some of the rumors are true. People are human including you. Never forget where you came from, and as the saying goes the same people you meet on the way up you meet on the way down.

OMG from USA says:
OMG is all I am going to say...Four Season's would ruin the charm ...

Jennifer from New Hampshire says:
I have to say that you and Bethanny are the best housewives of NYC. How did you become such a success? Do you have any words of wisdom?

rosemary from ohio says:
Jill you are by far my favorite on HW. Your and Bethany's friendshipm spirit and verve are just the best. You are both seemingly honest about difficult questions and situations. you also are great with a quick laugh and to see the humor in situations. Excellent work- I live vicariously through you!

Richard Crystal from Baltimore says:
Jill, Just a quick note to tell you that out of ALL the other houasewives on any show I have the most respect for you. You exhude not only sexiness but CLASS. And that's one thing money can't buy!

Trinidad Pena from San Francisco, Ca says:
People can say what they want but in the end I all this stuff makes you happy. So What. Jill I think your great !!

Jan from TN says:
I understand you can't comment on the negotiations of the show. I would just like to know when is it suppose to be back on? Thanks, Jan

Ellen Dudash from South Carolina says:
Great answer tO Chris! Love you!!!!

Veronica from San Diego says:
Jill, You look fabulous and I love the show- you are my favorite housewife so far. When I watch, its like I feel that I have known you for years! I love your attitude and you inspire me to work hard to achieve success like you and Bobby have attained. And you're absolutely right, when mean-spirited people only have negative things to say they bring you down and are jealous!!

Terry from Miami says:
Jill, I too think you have an ego. I really liked you in season one but I think now you have changed. Sometimes I watch or read your blog and feel as if you think you are a mega star. Honey, I hate to break it to you but Ramona's husband was right, your 15 minutes of fame is almost up, enjoy it. Later,

Renee Orgeron from Charlotte, NC says:
Hi Jill, I just wanted to tell you that I think you have a great head on your shoulders! I love your open mind and spirit! Thanks for being a great business woman and showing these young girls today that it takes hard work and modivation to get where you want to go in life! I really enjoy you on the show! Best wishes in all you do, and to your family too! Sincerely, Renee Orgeron

janet from Brookline says:
Hey Christine, Peggy Howrigan is exceptional for reductions, her office is in Wellesely Best of luck.

Mawa from NY says:
I love that you shop at TJ Maxx!! I don't care what people say, you really are just another down to earth girl from Long Island :)

barb Keiser from merrick,ny says:
Jill, You are honest, open, and no-nonsense. Shame on people who challenge your lifestyle;Bobby and you work very hard, and deserve what you have. Your daughter is a delight;there are many in the world who could learn from your parenting skills. Shalom, Barb

Jordy from CA says:
"Our fourth boat..". YAWN. Do you realize how you sound? I used to be a fan, but all you want to do is scream how wealthy you are and how much you have. We get it. You are so trying to compete with the big guns, it's a little sad. Trying to line yourself up with celebrities, ( like Kelly!) do anything for a photo op, it's beneath you really. Check yourself before you wreck yourself.

Barbara from South Amboy, NJ says:
Hi Jill! I think you are wonderful! I love you and Bethenny and I honestly feel like you are real people and tell it like it is. I love that. Don't listen to igonorant people. Jealousy has a heart that never dies, so it will always be out there. You have a fabulous life and are enjoying it. Good for you! Good luck with any future endeavors, I hope I have the honor of meeting you someday! We would have a lot of laughs for sure! PS I really appreciate you writing back to me on twitter and via email. It goes to show that you do not think you are above anyone or any of this! Yours, Barbara Tooker (BabsNJ)

John Rawlings from Houston, Texas says:
Jill there will always be mean spirited people in the world. I don't envy anything that you or anyone has. It is your money to do with what you like. I think people want to tear anyone they can down because it makes them feel better. I think that all that matters is where your heart is and I think that yours is in the right place and it was funny you don't remember but right when the first season started I email you and you actually sent me a very nice personal email back, I was impressed that you took the time to do that. So I don't know how much FAME has gone to your head???? Keep on going Jill you don't have to answer to anyone but you are gracious enough to do so even when someone is being mean!!!! A lady, Gloria raised you right!! Your friend in Houston John Rawlings

Michele from NC says:
Jill, Follow you as a fav. on the show. Bringing my daughter to NY for her graduation present. We have been before and done the tourist stuff. She wants to come to Soho district, skip china town (done that)...what do you recommend as must see...When she was little I brought her to the grand opening of the American Girl store and we did all that with spa, theater and cafe. Now she is 18, so I'd like to do something else remembered. thanks!

Dawn from MA says:
Love the reference to being a CCC addict! I too am a recovering CCC addict..having just lost 50 pounds I have given up a lot of cookies! You look fabulous by the way! Keep doing what your doing...why would we be reading if we didn't want to hear how fab your life is ;)

beth from somewhere usa says:
I agree with previous comment. Why do you have to tell everyone your rags to riches story all the time (going from small to larger boats). Seems like you are always trying to hard to say hello to famous people. You are a bravolebrity not a celebrity. Saw the way you were trying to get air time on the hilarious kathy griffin show.

Sol J. Kamen from Boca Raton, Fl says:
I enjoyed reading your travels around the Hamptons. It made me realize what I am missing. Have a great summer.
