Extraordinary Vouvray - The Famed Wines of Huet

When many wine lovers think of Vouvray, they think of appealing, affordable whites offering nice touches of minerality, succulence and heft. While there is Vouvray, there is also VOUVRAY, which in the hands of top producers can reach the same heights, complexity and ageworthiness as top white Burgundy.

The Huet estate is Vouvray at the very highest level of quality. It covers thirty-five hectares in the Loire Valley and is known for producing some of the greatest and most long-lived white wines in the world. Their 1921s and 1947s are legendary and can still be occasionally found on the auction market. From dry to sweet, their wines are made from 100 percent Chenin Blanc, offer wonderful complexity and drink beautifully, even in their youth.

'02 Huet Vouvray Demi-Sec "Clos du Bourg" $29.99
"A stunning nose of honeycomb, cardamom, ginger and caramelized peach is followed by a slightly sweet, yet incredibly lacy palate of ginger, graham, fig and green tea. Supported by mouthwatering acidity that lets all the flavors hang effortlessly through a lengthy finish. Drink now through 2020." —WS 93

'02 Huet Vouvray Moelleux 1er "Clos du Bourg" $67.99
"Full-bodied, with sweet earth, truffle, graham cracker, honey and spice aromas and flavors. Also shows matchstick and apple flavors. Long, sweet finish ripples with acidity. Shows more flash and power now from its sweetness. Minerality should develop with time. Drink now through 2020. 789 cases made." —WS 94. Or age even longer!
