Long Island wineries will be well represented at this year's Super Bowl as four East End vineyards, North Fork and the Hamptons, have been selected to represent the bounty of New York State to the world.

Governor Andrew Cuomo announced last week that 100 vendors from around the state will be featured this week at various events associated with the big game including a Media Day journalist party, several parties and events for the Super Bowl Host Committee partners and a pre-game charity event on Saturday that will feature selections of Long Island wine.

Both forks are equally represented as Duck Walk South of Water Mill and Wolffer Estate Vineyards of Sagaponak will represent the Hamptons and Pindar Vineyards of Peconic and Bedell Cellars of Cutchogue will represent the North Fork. This is the second opportunity in as many years for international recognition for Bedell Cellars as their 2009 Merlot was selected for President Barack Obama's Inaugural Luncheon last year. However, this was not a first for Long Island wine, as in 1989 Pindar had the honor of having two wines selected for President George H. W. Bush's Inaugural Ball.

In the four decades since Alex and Louisa Hargrave planted the first varietal vines in Cutchogue, the Long Island wine industry has grown to over 40 vineyards and has been designated as a wine region. Now as the world descends on the NY Metro area for the most watched sporting event in the world, Long Island wines are players associated with the Big Game! Congratulations to all four vineyards!
