Southampton - Suffolk County Legislator
Ed Romaine is pleased to announce the introduction of wine availability on the North Fork Train on the Long Island Railroad. Each Friday evening until Labor Day, the 5:21 p.m. train from Ronkonkoma to Greenport features wine from a different Long Island winery. The project, supported by the Long Island Wine Council, was spearheaded by Legislator Romaine.
Now in its fifth week, it has been an overwhelming success. While over 300 passengers rode the train last Friday, the wine sold out before the train reached Riverhead.
"This is a great way for the Long Island Wine Council to showcase its wine to travelers who may not be familiar with them," said Legislator Romaine. "Hopefully after they sample some fine wine, visitors to the North Fork will take a trip to our wineries or purchase Long Island wine in a local restaurant or shop."
Wine is available on the second leg of a Manhattan to Greenport run that departs Penn Station at 3:55 p.m. The train departs Ronkonkoma at 5:21 p.m., making stops in Medford, Yaphank, Riverhead (6:05 p.m.), Mattituck, and Southold, before arriving in Greenport at 6:45 p.m.
