So you think it's time for a new kitchen. Before you go crazy, answer the following three questions which we always ask our clients...starting with, "Why?"
Every elementary school kid learns that necessity is the mother of invention. Never was there a truer statement when talking about a particular style of beer called India Pale Ale. One particular innovation stands head and shoulders above the rest in world history, one that solved the problem of how to get beer to English soldiers in the newly colonized country of India. Taste it for yourself at the Southampton Publick House.
Has hibernation left your bellies growling for some tasty grub? Well...spring is in the air, and you're in luck! The Fifth Annual Hamptons Restaurant Week is here once again. No need to break the piggy bank, or cash in your tax returns, this is something everyone can afford.
Jeanne Cuddy-Peretz is a petite platinum blonde with the face of a pixie. What is even more surprising, is that beneath her magical exterior, beats the passionate heart of an earthbound woman who loves food and moreover, loves what she can do with it.
Twenty-five years ago on Thanksgiving Day, part-time Hamptons resident and NYC food critic, Gael Greene saw a headline in the New York Times that read, "City Scrimps to Feed the Aged." The next day she picked up the phone and called James Beard. Together they devised a way to produce Christmas baskets for the elderly, and by Monday morning, Citymeals-On-Wheels had been created.
It's the end of November and that means it's time to go back inside the holiday kitchen where families across the country are planning recipes and menus for the upcoming Thanksgiving Holiday feast. Spice up old favorites or try a new method. There is more than one way to cook a turkey after all.
Where did summer go? It seems that everyone I know is asking this question lately. One day it's spring and just warm enough to sit outside without a jacket, and the veggies are starting to come to market, and now it's fall. Thanks goodness for the still-warm water and the great local produce.
As a natural foods chef, two very important factors in food are taste and nutrition. People constantly ask me how to eat healthier. During the summer, the best advice is to eat locally and seasonally - a delicious way to be good to yourself, the environment and experience the culinary treasures of the Hamptons.
"My life is a party," says event planner Christopher Robbins of Robbins Wolfe Eventeurs, and you believe him. As he says, a party is like theater, and he knows how to play the part of master of ceremonies with a list of clients which reads like a social register.
With the end of summer fast approaching, we wanted to take the chance to fit in a few more chances for outdoor dining on the East End before thoughts of fall and cold weather rolled in. Situated just around the corner from the train station, Madame Tong's seems the perfect spot to stop for some fresh air and cocktails after a busy week at work or for a romantic dinner for two.
Sitting on Main Street, a majestic looking New England Farmhouse, also host to the Inn at Quogue, blends well with its surroundings, unnoticed if not for the glowing "Q" not far from the entrance drawing your eye in. Specializing in an array of mouth watering Mediterranean-American dishes, several scrumptious fish and hearty beef dishes caught our eye.
Making certain your bar is properly organized is extremely important. From glassware and mixers to liquor and garnishes, each item plays an important role in preparing the "Perfect Bar."
Attracting families and visitors of all ages, Westhampton Beach seems to have something for everyone with their performing arts center, shopping, and plentiful restaurants, where we decided to stop by The Patio on Main Street the other day.
It was a mouth-watering trip back for us to Turtle Crossing in East Hampton - a local favorite for many tasty reasons. This time we pulled Chef Arthur Wolf from his busy kitchen to find out what makes his barbeque so delicious.
Right across from the town pond, under the ever-watchful eye of the swans and geese that call it home, sits the Maidstone Arms and CoCo Restaurant. Brought to us by Peter Miller this gem of a restaurant is a shining example of that well earned reputation, and worth a visit.
Nestled across the water from our last culinary visit to Montauk, Harvest on Fort Pond is just off the hustle and bustle of Montauk Highway. The overflowing parking lot and street parking out front hinted that this was a well-loved local gem as we pulled up. The delicious meal confirmed our suspicions.
Opened JL East in 2003 to round out the group of restaurants, which also includes JLX Bistro in Sag Harbor and Jean Luc Restaurant in Manhattan. With so many choices, you palate will be anything but bored, no matter which end of the island you are on.
Move over South Beach - the newly released Hamptons Diet Cookbook by Dr. Fred Pescatore and Chef Jeff Harter gives you over 200 recipes and entertaining tips of the rich, famous, and thin. And you don't need a private chef to prepare these meals.
If you appreciate Pan Asian cuisine head over to Matsulin in Hampton Bays. The delicate flavors and unique presentation will have you begging for more. Their location across from the movie theater makes it the perfect date-night dinner spot.
Taking advantage of Hamptons Restaurant Week, we took a chance to visit a few local restaurants. Our first stop was nestled in Riverhead - Tweeds Restaurant and Buffalo Bar, a local favorite since 1896.
