Southampton - Sant Ambroeus restaurant in Southampton, originally opened in 1992, reopens with a restyled look by designer Robert McKinley. The indoor dining is open from Friday to Sunday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. The outdoor dining will open on Memorial Day weekend and Sant Ambroeus' guests will enjoy our exquisite Milanese cuisine by chef Mario Danieli, our legendary desserts and cappuccino bar.
Starting in June, Sant Ambroeus will be open seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m., until Labor Day weekend.

McKinley is noted for his New York City projects such as the Gold Bar, Felice Wine Bar, Sant Ambroeus West Village and Madison Avenue. The Southampton restaurant is inspired by the Italian style of the 1960s and 1970s. At the entrance, tall tables accommodate guests for a quick coffee or a cup of gelato. The dining room banquettes are dressed in ivory leather, along with chairs finished in black and white striped retro-styled fabric for the seating. Natural colored linen curtains line the windows giving more light to the space and a warm, elegant atmosphere during the evening.

On the walls of the main dining room, guests will enjoy the photographs by renowned artist Clifford Ross from his "Hurricanes" series. "Hurricanes" depict the sky as it shifts from white to black, the convulsions of the surf as it shifts from foam to liquid granite. The dramatic waves captured with Ross's camera lens reveal dynamic forms, lyrical movements, and hidden passages of tranquility within the stormy sea. The installation at Sant Ambroeus in Southampton coincides with an exhibition at Guild Hall in East Hampton opening June 25, which will include monumental versions of some of the works at Sant Ambroeus.

Sant Ambroeus offers the highest Italian cuisine, service, company and conversation through the truly contemporary idea of an "all day" restaurant. In the dining room, guests can delight in the authentic and traditional risotti and cotoletta Milanese dishes of executive chef, Mario Danieli. Much like in Milan and Madison Avenue, clients can stop by the counter for an espresso, cappuccino, hand-crafted gelato, pastries and cookies baked on premise.

Sant Ambroeus also offers a special events and full scale catering service in the Hamptons area to bring its clients an unforgettable Sant Ambroeus experience to their home or event space. For more catering information call 212-207-6680, ext. 5.

Currently, Sant Ambroeus has three locations, two in Manhattan (259 West 4th Street and 1000 Madison Avenue) and one in Southampton (30 Main Street). In addition to the restaurants, Sant Ambroeus' pastries and desserts are produced daily at its own off-site bakery. Sant Ambroeus is part of G&D Restaurants Associates, which also owns Casa Lever restaurant and Felice Wine Bar in Manhattan.

About The Artist Clifford Ross
Ross is not afraid to plunge waist-deep in hurricane-tossed seas in order to get his shot. Tied to the shore by a rope and drenched to the bone, Ross threw himself into the tumultuous waters of the Atlantic off Georgica Beach in East Hampton with camera in hand, determined to capture the experience and drama of nature in transition.

After years of experimentation, and a move from using film to an inventive digital process, Ross has created a new series of "Hurricanes," a remarkable body of work that has captured the beauty and complexity of the strength of the sea. The dramatic waves captured with Ross's camera lens reveal dynamic forms, lyrical movements, and hidden passages of tranquility within the stormy sea.

Ross began his career as a painter and sculptor after graduating from Yale in 1974 with a degree in both Art and Art History. In 1995, he turned his attention toward photography and other media. His work is in numerous public collections including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Museum of Modern Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, and the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, among others.

In 2009, a 10-year survey of his photographic work was exhibited at the Austin Museum of Art, and an exhibition of his "Mountain" and "Hurricane" series opened at the MADRE/Museo Archeologico in Naples, Italy. Among his future projects are an exhibition at the Museu de Imagem, in Sao Paulo, Brazil, in March 2012, and completion of a 28' x 28' stained glass wall for the new federal courthouse in Austin, Texas scheduled for September 2012. The artist lives and works in New York City.

On May 7, Sonnabend Gallery will open Clifford Ross: Landscape to Imagination, an exhibition that revisits new and old work from the artist's groundbreaking high-resolution "Mountain" photographs and includes a video by Ross entitled "Harmonium Mountain" that features an original score by the composer Philip Glass. The exhibit will continue through July 29, 2011 at 536 West 22nd Street, New York City, 212-627-1018.

Sant Ambroeus is located at 30 Main Street, Southampton, NY 11968, 631-283-1233, and is owned by G&D Restaurant Group. The designer is Robert McKinley, Executive Chef is Mario Danieli, Chef de Cuisine is Fabio Gutierrez, and the General Manager is Dimitri Pauli.
