Just down the road from our last stop, Quogue is like the sleepy little side-note to the Hamptons. Charming little boutiques and tall trees line the quiet streets, making for a perfect afternoon stroll or bite to eat. Sitting on Main Street, a majestic looking New England Farmhouse, also host to the Inn at Quogue, blends well with its surroundings, unnoticed if not for the glowing "Q" not far from the entrance drawing your eye in.
Inside, the lounge and restaurant take on a slightly more retro-modern feel. Supple leather chairs have soft clean lines, and curve invitingly out to guests as they enjoy a drink with friends or wait for a table. Taking our seat near the window where the lush greenery just outside sheltered us from any outside cares, we ordered a bottle of San Peligrino and took a peek in the menu.
Specializing in an array of mouth watering Mediterranean-American dishes, several scrumptious fish and hearty beef dishes caught our eye. Starting on a light note, we sampled the Sesame Seared Tuna Loin on Star Fruit with a Wasabi Citrus Aoli. The star fruit was an interestingly crisp addition to the tuna, keeping the flavor focused on the delicate fish. A fork and knife was preferred over chopsticks, as each piece was generously sized, but well proportioned to the fruit slices. The spice of the wasabi citrus added a nice contrast to the sweet and mellow dish, we almost wished for more to dip into.
Also off the appetizer side of the menu, we tried the Baby Leaf Spinach Salad with Tangerine and Crisp Pancetta, Red Onion, and Pineapple Vinaigrette Compote. The spinach and panchetta gave the salad a deep earthy taste unique to a fine spinach salad, and the tangerine and pineapple vinaigrette kept us going back for more without overfilling with the appetizers.
All the colors and fruits paired with the lush view had us thinking of Mediterranean vacations and beachfront villas, so we eyed the ample wine list and ordered a Wolffer Chardonnay and a Heron Pinot Noir to complete the relaxed mood as we settled in for the main course.
The evening's special of a Grilled Rib eye topped with Lobster Medallions and Gorgonzola Horseradish butter immediately caught our eye, and it did not disappoint. The ample Lobster came pre-shelled and smothered in the smooth butter sauce. Leaning more towards the gorgonzola end of the taste spectrum, it added a rich taste that paired well with the shellfish as well as the ample steak hidden underneath, done to a succulent medium.
At our waiters suggestion, we ordered a helping of the White Truffle Fries, thinly sliced and well seasoned, they helped keep the lobster from making the dish too formal for the relaxing mood of the evening.

Next, we ordered the Herb Grilled Half Chicken with Roasted Garlic and Rosemary. Grilled to succulent perfection, as we dug into the chicken, we discovered that the aromatic rosemary and garlic added a flavorful punch to every bite, making it good to the last bite. After the success on the steak and lobster, we decided to try the Gorgonzola Chive Mashed Potatoes. The Potatoes came in their own large bowl perfect for sharing. The Gorgonzola added a dense hearty flavor and had us wishing for twice the room to finish it off, and the chives kept it interesting.
Eyeing the dessert menu, we were glad we opted to leave some room. The Gateau De Crepe came highly recommended, and its simple entry on the menu had us intrigued. On arrival, we quickly discovered the reason behind the lacking elaboration on paper. The 20-plus layer confection practically defies description as it towers on the plate. The delicately thin crepes are layered with a whipped crème that has a decidedly smooth taste without over sweetening the dish. The whole thing sits under a final layer of a caramelized sugar crust that made for interesting eating as we tried to slice off it and as many of the layers below without making the whole thing topple over. A treat that has to be seen to believe, we highly recommend it to everyone.
While the Gateau De Crepe was sized generously enough to share, we decided to try the chocolate mousse cake. Served with long curls of chocolate, the dish immediately appealed to the chocolate lover inside. The mousse was a melt in your mouth smooth that paired well with the crisp chocolate crust and curls. It also paired well with the Starbucks coffee and ample teas Q has available, a pairing we highly recommend for a chocolate pick-you-up on a dreary day.
Finally leaving the Mediterranean Oasis, the calm town surrounding Q kept the mood mellow and relaxed. Located at 47 Quogue Street, You can reach them at 631-288-3463 or on the web at
