Summer is here, and on the East End, that means that several delicious local crops are in and available at farmstands throughout the Hamptons and the North Fork. Two of the ingredients I get the most excited about are in season right now - fresh local strawberries and tender East End asparagus.
In the Hamptons, we have seemingly endless choices when it comes to restaurants. Le Chef Bistro in Southampton melds upscale sophistication with inviting comfort to create a pleasurable dining experience night after night.
Any day of the week you'll find a range of things on the menu to tempt you for lunch, brunch, and dinner. If you haven't tasted Southampton Publick House's beers, you owe it to yourself to do so. My personal favorites are the Saison Deluxe, Biere de Garde, and a newly released, limited-edition farmhouse beer - Biere de Mars.
Looking for a cool place to take friends from out of town? Looking for a fabulous date spot? Need a place that caters to kids? Looking for specials during the week with plenty of choices? Like things a little spicy? If you answered 'yes' to any of these questions than WEI FUN in East Hampton is the place for you! 2 comments
The Sixth Annual "Hamptons Restaurant Week," is scheduled for the last week of March from Sunday, March 30 through Sunday, April 6. During this eight-day promotion, all participating restaurants will offer a three-course prix fixe for $21.95 all night, except Saturday when it will only be offered until 7 p.m.
Beneath the beauty of Sag Harbor, the exclusive seaside community where the average gross income was $95,298 in 2004, there are 400-600 individuals every month who go to the Sag Harbor Food Pantry at the Old Whalers Church for food.
Like any professional, I am often asked during casual conversations how I would renovate someone's problem kitchen - "the cocktail consultation" I call it - but just as frequently I am asked what are the most over-the-top things my clients are putting in their kitchens.
My oneophile journey continues without my guru Chris Miller by my side. As I step out alone in exploration of Long Island wines I am soon joined by winemaker Eric Fry and the woman who wrote the books on the subject, Louisa Thomas Hargrave.
The continuing adventures of Lon and Chris as they travel the twin forks of Long Island's Wine Country.
I like to drink wine but I don't know Jack about it. So I enlisted the help of a Sommelier, Chris Miller, to help guide. We will go traipsing through the twin forks of Long Island, similar to that famous buddy flick about California merlot, to take the vineyards by storm on an adventure that I have called: LONGWAYS.
Now that we have established the need for your new kitchen, it's time to talk about the possibilities for new design elements.
Wednesday evening, Gael Greene and her husband Steven invited me to join them for dinner at a new restaurant, called Spotlight Live! on Broadway in New York City. Imagine the possibilities at Spotlight Live! where you can perform on Broadway, in front of a live audience, with trained back-up singers and enjoy a fabulous dinner.
It was the day before Valentine's Day, and the media had been predicting snow all day. I braved the elements and headed over to Alison's for an evening of good food, good wine, and amusing conversation with Jay McInerney who was accompanied by his lovely wife Anne Hearst.
The food pantries, soup kitchens and emergency shelters supported by Island Harvest, Long Island's Source Authority on Food Rescue, are already in need of more than 13,000 turkeys to feed the area's hungry over the holiday season. Panera Bread bakery-cafes throughout Long Island are once again partnering with Island Harvest and will serve as dedicated drop-off sites for frozen turkeys and turkey coupons through December 24th.
Hamptons.com Main Street Series presents an interview with insatiable food critic Gael Greene. Hear her serve up dish on Elvis, her new book, and food too. Gina Glickman hosts.
The arrival of spring brings lots of local green vegetables that require very little in the way of preparation - meshing perfectly with the lightness in the air and the desire (not the will, but definitely the desire) to lose some weight and eat better. First up this spring, asparagus!
What's food without a little music? East End restaurants obviously want to know and are answering that question with prix fixe menus and live music.
