Serving up some of the spiciest food this side of Shinnecock Canal, Estia's Little Kitchen, located just a mile south of the village on the Bridgehampton-Sag Harbor Turnpike, unexpectedly takes your tastebuds on a trip to Tijuana.
The Executive Chef of OSO Restaurant in Southampton loves to "have fun with food" finding creative applications for unusual ingredients. "Being in Southampton my philosophy on food has changed and I'm just now finding my style," remarked Chef Bryan Naylor recently in his kitchen.
The seasonal changes in the weather signal seasonal changes on menus as a new batch of produce appears. In the hands of a master this bounty becomes amazing cuisine and tasty comfort food. Chef James Gee, of Cittanuova, agrees, "Spring is a pretty exciting time for cooking. My menus are always inspired by what I see at the markets. Aside from a few classics, I really just prepare what I feel like at the time."
Every neighborhood has that one spot, favored by all, that is packed night after night serving delicious creations. Up on Noyac Road in North Sea that spot since June 2005 is Wildthyme where regional American food comes together with Mediterranean and Asian influences. 1 comment
On a recent visit to 1770 House in East Hampton, I was given everything that I wanted and nothing I didn't. The food was beyond delicious and the atmosphere was extremely comfortable. If you're looking for a casually elegant meal with some of the best food in the Hamptons, you must make a reservation at the 1770 House. The overall experience was exceptional and it's hard to imagine a better dining adventure. 1 comment
Making the rounds of holiday parties and get-togethers is fun, but for the hostess - all of that shopping, preparation, cooking, and clean-up is far from enjoyable. Give yourself the gift of a party and have your holiday events catered. The Hamptons is rich with caterers who know how to turn any party into a fabulous evening.
If you're looking to get out of the cold and check out a mellow vibe this winter head over to Muse Restaurant & Aquatic Lounge if not just for their delicious eats, and at only $24.95 for their all night prix fixe who could refuse, but just to check out their fish tank topped bar, which boasts all sorts of delightful little swimmers under glass, and have a cocktail with friends.
OSO Restaurant opened earlier this past summer and recently announced that there was a new chef at the reigns, as well as a restaurant director, excited to bring the food to another level. On a brisk fall evening a few foodie friends headed over to give the menu a sample and were plesantly surprised. 2 comments
75 Main is a fun and casual bar and restaurant right on Main Street owned by Tim Burke, that keeps the crowds coming year-round when many other establishments begin to close up for the winter. It's a fantastic spot for after-work drinks, a pre-theater dinner, and late night live music and dancing on the weekends. 1 comment
Café Max owners Nancy and Max Weintraub proudly declare their restaurant "unHampton." It's certainly unfussy and rustic and draws a faithful local crowd every week, but Café Max is "very Hamptons" in the sense that it has been an East Hampton staple for 17 years. 7 comments
Annona Restaurant in Westhampton Beach has a clandestine but ritzy location, giving it a speakeasy private-club sort of feel, while the menu harkens to Italian flavors with a decidedly American twist. 1 comment
Many people deal with cauliflower in one of two ways - they either love it or hate it. This much misunderstood low-carb vegetable is packed with vitamins and fiber and can be quite delicious when roasted or mashed.
It is a fruit or vegetable? When it comes to tomatoes, that's the eternal debate but it always ends the same, deliciously, especially if you've picked up some of the East End's finest, picked fresh early on a sunny day from any number of local farmstands. 1 comment
Considering how much I love food, wine, and beer, I have surprisingly few true food obsessions. Pork shoulder and local heirlooms tomatoes are two of them (more on tomatoes in a future column) but one of the others is Long Island sweet corn.
Growing up, my grandmother served beets at every holiday meal without fail. As a kid, I hated beets. Then, years later, after I moved to Long Island and tasted locally grown beets, roasted simply with a little olive oil, salt and pepper, I was converted.
