The Saltbox Restaurant and Bar is opening its doors over Memorial Day weekend for its Hamptons debut. Taking over the former location of O'Murphy's Pub in Montauk, the new year-round East End eatery will offer lunch, happy hour and dinner, along with "saltboxes" to go.
The restaurant is the first collaboration between local real estate developer Jon Krasner and head chef Danny Ye.
"We couldn't be more excited to be located in the heart of Montauk, three blocks from the ocean, and in the center of all the action," said Krasner. "Everyone and anyone is always welcome to join us for cold beers, margaritas, fish tacos, burgers and more."
Inspired by all that encompasses the seaside Hamptons village, The Saltbox will showcase locally sourced ingredients, which pair well with locally crafted beers and wines. The menu will feature items like a Lobster Roll, classically dressed and served with French fries; Baja Fish Tacos with crispy whitefish, shredded cabbage, and pico de gallo; and The Saltbox Burger with Angus beef, cheddar cheese, lettuce, tomato and onion on a brioche bun served with French fries.
Bar manager Ian Hunt created an original list of seasonal cocktails that are playful takes on classics showcasing local flavors. Hunt, a veteran bartender, has been collaborating with Ye for years at restaurants including Nobu and Harlow East. Featured cocktails will include the 'Ditch Punch,' a mixture of dark rum, pineapple juice, hibiscus and lemon juice, and the 'Montauk 33,' featuring prosecco, gin, blood orange liquor and pineapple juice.
The Saltbox decor will embrace the nautical theme with reclaimed wooden walls decorated with artwork from Montauk-based artists like Justin Burkle and Alison Sieffer Spacek. The restaurant will also showoff a picture of frequent Montauk visitor, Mick Jagger, from 1975, which was taken at Andy Warhol
's Montauk estate.
The Saltbox Restaurant and Bar is located at 99 Edgemere Street at Carl Fisher Plaza in Montauk. For more information, call 631-238-5727 or visit www.montauksaltbox.com.
