New York City - il Buco is proud to announce the opening of its new sister establishment, il Buco Alimentari & Vineria, 53 Great Jones between Bowery and Lafayette. This exciting NoHo neighborhood spot located around the corner from its Bond Street sibling features a full-service restaurant (Vineria) as well as a market (Alimentari) which includes a coffee bar, house-cured salumeria, bakery (panetteria), pastificio (housemade pasta) and gelateria. Breakfast, lunch and dinner will be served daily. This new location is the creation of owner

Leading the kitchen is Executive Chef
Justin Smillie, who most recently served as Chef at
Andre Balazs' Sunset Beach on Shelter Island, Sous Chef at The Standard in NYC, and Chef de Cuisine at
Jonathan Waxman's Barbuto. Leading the front of the house is General Manager
Luca Pasquinelli, who spent the last year at il Buco and was formerly the Wine Director at Babbo.
Paul Lang, the Beverage Director at il Buco for two years, now oversees the beverage programs at both il Buco locations. The Pastry Chef,
Keren Weiner, was formerly Pastry Sous Chef at Gramercy Tavern and Chanterelle; and baker

Open throughout the day, il Buco Alimentari &Vineria offers neighbors and visitors a one-stop destination for all their food and dining needs - from a cappuccino and freshly baked breads and pastry in the morning, to sandwiches at the café or a to-go lunch, to house-made gelato for an afternoon sweet, or a glass of wine, salumi & cheese any time of day. The Vineria's main dining room is open for lunch and dinner daily, or guests can pick up all the best Italian ingredients at the Alimentari for a little taste of il Buco at home. Lively, romantic, "cool" and comfortable, il Buco Alimentari &Vineria is a new neighborhood destination.
The Alimentari carries some of the best finds from artisan producers in Italy and locally, beginning with il Buco's original product line of extra virgin olive oils from Umbria, Sicily and Liguria, vinegars from Montegibbio di Modena, and hand-harvested sea salt from Trapani, Sicily. Pasta is made fresh daily on site. Guests will also find numerous products imported exclusively by il Buco: dried pastas; Pugliese tomatoes; olives, marmalades and conserves from Liguria; anchovies, colatura, honey and capers from Sicily; preserved vegetables, grains and beans from Umbria; an exclusive selection of cave-aged pecorinos from Emilia Romagna, Lambrusco jelly, mostardas, and more. Tastes of the products are offered throughout the shop.
Guests can order from a selection of sandwiches made with freshly baked breads and an irresistible selection of house-cured salumi and cheese, as well as sautéed Tuscan kale and stracchino, housemade ricotta bruschetta, and porchetta and Label Rouge chicken from the rotisserie. The whole roasted chickens are also available to-go. The gelato counter located at the restaurant's entrance offers wonderful seasonal flavors that change frequently; only the vanilla bean is available daily to drown in a wonderful affogato from the coffee bar which opens early in the morning for espresso and an array of fresh pastries including brioche and granita. The coffee counter transforms into a wine bar as noon approaches, then picks up speed again in the evening for pre-dinner aperitivi and wonderful assaggi (tastings).
The Vineria menu features rustic and flavorful Italian cooking, inspired by the food prepared in the early years at il Buco. House-cured salumi, small plates and an ample selection of dried and fresh pastas feature ingredients from the Alimentari. Entrees that are meant for sharing or perfect for an individual meal include rotisserie roasted short ribs, porchetta and Label Rouge chickens, as well as whole branzino baked in the wood burning oven under the Sicilian sea salt - all made with the very best seasonal ingredients from local farmers and Italian purveyors. The wine list highlights a slate of four-six wines from each of eight producers that rotate frequently, and a selection of artisan beers and wines are available on tap.
Il Buco Alimentari &Vineria has been a 10-year dream in the making for Lennard, a way to expand upon the original il Buco. She has been working not only on the concept, but finding the perfect location in the neighborhood that she loves, researching the very best ingredients, traveling to Italy to collect antiques and materials - not to mention putting together the most talented and passionate team.
The Design Like the original, il Buco Alimentari &Vineria is a beautiful, warm and rustic restaurant, set in a stand-alone building that once housed Great Jones Lumber Supply. Lennard has completely gutted and transformed the three-level space into a restaurant and market on the first floor, a stunning private dining loft on the second floor, and a prep kitchen and full production facility on the lower level. The design transports guests to Italy, with furniture, antiques and materials from various Italian towns and cities, as well as many elements reclaimed from the original wood foundry.
Natural elements and textures blend together. Reclaimed wood joists from Great Jones Lumber are used throughout the space - on the benches, bar siding, shelving and tables. Handcrafted steel and concrete complement the woodwork. Overhead is a one-of-a-kind chandelier/light sculpture from
Warren Muller, whose original studio was located in the il Buco space, and whose coveted work features a mix of salvaged objects. In the center of the main dining room, alongside a Carrara marble bar, is a communal glass-top, ceramic factory table (which can also be reserved for larger parties). Original graffiti, an homage from the walls of the lumber supply, remains on the original brick walls. A beautiful "batteria" of vinegar barrels (a wedding gift for Lennard and her husband from their vinegar producer in Modena) separates the alimentari from the restaurant trhee steps below. Antique glass and ceramic jugs adorn the shelves. Adding warmth from above is an enchanting copper stamped ceiling made for the space by a friend in Florence, as well as old Italian street lamps. Beautiful antique Italian porcelain tiles and terracotta flooring are found throughout the space. Even the bathrooms feature vintage stone sinks and tiles.
On the upper level is a beautiful and open private dining area, with a slanted glass wall looking out onto the rooftop, where a stunning garden is in the works. The lofted room features long, communal wooden tables and Italian antiques. The warm and rustic space is perfect for both cocktail parties and seated dinners. The space is also available for a la carte dinner service when not reserved for a private event.
