Southampton - For the second year in a row, Tate's Bake Shop will be participating in the Anita Kaufmann Foundation's Epilepsy Awareness Project. This year, in addition to creating some truly lovely (and yummy) purple cupcakes for the Southampton store as part of the Great Purple Cupcake Project, Tate's Bake Shop's owner and principal baker, Kathleen King, will be joining TLC channel's "Cake Boss"' Buddy Valastro for a fundraising event.

The event, "Cupcakes with Buddy," will be held on March 13, 2011 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the hotel W Hoboken located at 225 River Street. Valasto will host a demonstration and will make a special cake for the event. "Cupcakes with Buddy" will also feature a silent auction with incredible prizes and a huge selection of delicious cupcakes, including those from Tate's Bake Shop. Guests are being asked to wear purple to show their support.

The Great Purple Cupcake Project is an initiative of The Anita Kaufmann Foundation - an epilepsy organization focusing on public education and a Global Sponsor of Purple Day for epilepsy (March 26 annually). From March 20 through March 26, bakeries across the United States are baking up purple cupcakes in an effort to increase awareness about epilepsy nationwide.

In addition to participating in the Hoboken event, King and her staff will be making and selling purple cupcakes at Tate's Bake Shop throughout the week of March 20 to support the cause. King says, "I am thrilled to be a part of the fundraiser, as well as the weeklong effort to raise awareness of epilepsy. It's so critical to know the real facts about this condition - and raising awareness by baking delicious
cupcakes, what could be better!"

Epilepsy affects more than three million Americans and 50 million people worldwide. That's one out of every 100 people! Yet, many people living with epilepsy still face barriers due to a lack of awareness about the condition.

Tickets for the "Cupcakes with Buddy" event may be purchased at cupcakeswithbuddy.charityhappenings.org ($50) or at the door the day of the event ($75, cash only). It's a great opportunity to support the cause and meet Kathleen King.

Tate's Bake Shop is located at 43 North Sea Road in Southampton, and is open Monday through Thursday from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Friday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Call 631-283-9830 for more information or go to www.tatesbakeshop.com.

Guest (Liz) from Australia says:
Congratulations to you all for raising money for a good cause. Hope it goes extremely well and that people are generous in the silent auctions and in saying that know that the money is going to a fantastic cause. For us here in Australia our focus is on helping those affected by devastating floods/ cyclones and bushfires in which lives were so tragically lost including children,as well as sending all our prayers to our close friends in New Zealand while they still search and grieve for the loved ones lost in the tragic Earthquake that hit with no warning. So while our congratulations go to you all we ask is that maybe in return you all could send alot of prayers and good wishes our way and we thank you for the help you have sent to New Zealand to help our close friends. Liz
