- The Bridgehampton School Board did approve its proposed budget of $9,873,698 for the 2008-2009 school year. Up for vote on May 20, the budget represents a 3.19 percent decrease from the current school year’s budget.

- The high school tuition debate continues between the Springs UFSD and the East Hampton UFSD. A public hearing is scheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 27, at the Springs School gymnasium.

- The nearly resolved tuition debate between the East Hampton and Springs school districts faces another small hitch this week as East Hampton Superintendent Dr. Raymond Gaultieri, responding to a question from Board member Stephen Talmage at Tuesday’s regular board meeting, reported he had “been informed today there was a change in the way the Seneca Falls Formula (SFF) is calculated at the state level.”

- Sag Harbor School Superintendent Kathryn Holden surprisingly announced she will be resigning effective July 30, 2008 at Monday's regular board of education meeting. The news came as a surprise to school community members in attendance.
- Pierson Middle/High School in Sag Harbor was locked down for one hour on Friday following a fight between two high school students. Superintendent Holden reported the school went into lockdown mode after one of the students left the premises "without authorization in a highly agitated state."

- May 20 is decision day for area schools, with each and every school district holding a vote on the proposed school budget for the 2008-2009 school year. Voters will also elect Board of Education members, and decide the fate of a number of propositions.

- The chosen athletic director candidate at Sag Harbor's Schools, which has just 895 students in grades K-12, will be designated six-tenths athletic director and four-tenths in charge of facilities, adding up to one full-time post, raising questions as to the work load for this unique combined post.
