improvement projects within the district dating back to before 2007.
The school district had depended on certain state aid formulas to ensure the flow of these funds. Senator LaValle noted that, in spite of fiscal problems, the state has an obligation to the people. The measure will now be sent to the Governor for his signature.
According to Senator LaValle the Rocky Point School District submitted capital projects that met the State Education Department (SED) requirements but a late filing of a final cost report made the district ineligible for funding.
"The taxpayers should not suffer the consequences of an unintended administrative error," said Senator LaValle referring to the paperwork error dating back to 2007 or earlier. The district's current administration was not responsible for the error.
Similar measures were passed by both houses in previous years but vetoed by the then Governors.
