New York City - Richard Nydegger, of Hampton Bays, was recently presented with the "New Chairperson of the Year" Award at the 2011 Fresh Air Fund Friendly Town Conference. Once again this year, the organization highlighted the most outstanding volunteers for their relentless efforts to support the host family program. Richard was recognized for his terrific management work throughout the Southampton area.

Richard joined the Fresh Air team with a great deal of enthusiasm and momentum. In his first year as Chairperson, he created a church committee to gain local sponsorship, organized chartered fishing trips for visiting Fresh Air children and significantly increased his host base. Richard stands out as "New Chairperson of the Year" for supporting every Fresh Air child that visits, in order to give them a terrific summer experience!

The Fresh Air Fund has provided free summer experiences to more than 1.7 million underprivileged New York City children since 1877. Each summer, volunteer host families in 13 states and Canada open their homes for up to two weeks or more to a child who might not otherwise have the chance to experience the world outside the city.
