Get ready to paddle for a purpose at the 2019 Hamptons Paddle for Pink event!
With all proceeds benefiting the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF), this race attracts hundreds of East End community members, athletes, and notable names. Previous participants have included Lena Dunham, Laird Hamilton, Bethenny Frankel, Gabby Reese, Jason Sehorn, Jill Martin, Jimmy Buffett, Tracy Anderson, Breckin Meyer, and more. The multi-skill level race was created by Maria Baum and Larry Baum and Lisa Perry and Richard Perry in 2012.
“We are so proud to be raising lifesaving funds for breast cancer research alongside the dedicated community here in the Hamptons,” said Myra Biblowit, President and CEO of BCRF. “Each and every supporter here today is undoubtedly bringing us closer to the end of breast cancer by propelling the power of research forward.”
As someone who personally knows what it is like to go through cancer treatment, founder, Maria Baum, who is also a Breast Cancer Research Foundation board member, introduced the idea for the fundraiser. After being diagnosed with breast cancer, Baum found paddle boarding to be a way to lift her spirits during her intense treatments. She used her own passion and life experience to establish the lifesaving fundraiser, Paddle for Pink.
From 2012 to today, this event has evolved into a massive fundraiser that to date, in conjunction with Party for Pink, has raised 10.5 million dollars for breast cancer research.
Hosted by The Kitchen co-host Katie Lee, this year’s event will take place on Saturday, August 3, 2019 at 8 a.m., at Havens Beach in Sag Harbor.
The Breast Cancer Research Foundation concentrates on ending breast cancer by “advancing the world’s more promising research.” This incredible foundation was created by Evelyn H. Lauder in 1993 and through many different events and fundraisers has changed the lives of so many women. This year alone the Breast Cancer Research Foundation has given $63 million in grants to 300 scientists, in 14 different countries.
So, go fundraise, and paddle for the fight against breast cancer!
