On Saturday, May 18, Southampton Animal Shelter is once again taking over Red Creek Park in Hampton Bays for a furtastic, family friendly happening, the Third Annual Paws in the Park. The dog walk and family day will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
“Paws in the Park is the perfect opportunity for families to come together to celebrate the dogs in their lives, while supporting animals in need,” Christina Ragone, Southampton Animal Shelter Foundation Marketing Manager, noted.
The afternoon will offer something for all, including family fun, bites courtesy of food trucks, shopping with local vendors, beats provided by a local DJ, and a myriad of exciting prizes and goodie-bags. Little ones will adore the chance to enjoy pony rides, select a statement design for face painting, and the kid’s scavenger hunt. Attendees are encouraged to bring a lawn chair or blanket to create their own picnic. As it is about the animals, there will also be a dog agility course for pups to show off.
In addition to the entertaining activities, attendees can partake in a one-mile hike to support SASF shelter pets. Walkers are encouraged to pre-register online at southamptonanimalshelter.com.
The walk pre-registration fee is $20 and registration on the day of the event is $25. Dogs must have valid proof of rabies at time of registration. For those that plan on participating, you can make a fundraising page to support SASF and also have a chance at the top fundraiser title, which will be rewarded with an extraordinary prize.
“It’s an exciting event that promotes the bond between people and pets, with shopping and activities for the whole family, including dogs!” Ragone added.
All proceeds from Paws in the Park benefit the animals residing at the Shelter. The Southampton Animal Shelter Foundation, a 501 (c) 3 non-profit, is committed to caring for the homeless animals in the East End community. In addition to providing a refuge for the local animals, SASF’s reach can be felt nationwide, and even globally as they rescue dogs from “kill shelters” and extreme situations spanning from New York City to Georgia to Puerto Rico and even China. In 2018 alone, 805 animals found their forever homes while residing at the Shelter, 263 strays were reunited with their families, and over 300 pets were placed in foster homes.
There is no fee to attend Paws in the Park.
